I have a 7 X 4 gal high sided box trailer with 15inch Holden hubs wheels. The axle is on top of the 7 leaf slipper springs.

I need extra space to carry camping gear for weekends/holidays when going off road. What needs to be carried is only about 200 kgs at the maximum.

My plan is to put on land cruiser hubs, wheels, AT tyres and mounting the axle beneath the springs to give it more ground clearance.

Is ok to mount the axle beneath the springs seeing they are slipper type ?

Slipper springs will cause you problems in my opinion. If you are going to the trouble of a new axle and hubs then fit up shackle springs too.

Slipper springs can be repaired anywhere and cheaply with minimal tools and effort. They won't cause any drama unless you want to tow many tonnes off road for ten years or more.

Thinking of doing the same with my trailer but not for offload.

I have moving the axle under the springs on my list to do to my 7x4. Standard trailer behind a lifted Prado sits too low and looks like it is overloaded even when its empty. Will probably make some mud flaps as well as the factory ones will be too high

Slipper springs WILL slip out on corrugations causing all sorts of drama. However I have seen a length of chain welded to the back of the slipper and the chassis to make this impossible. I don't know if it solves the problem but may be cheaper than changing to hangers.

I've dropped my axle down to under the springs. Certainly helps make it look right after the lift went in. Wasn't much to it but then I've never got anything more heavy than a load of rubbish in mine.
