  • 2008 Grande Airbags

We own a 2008 Prado Grande which we purchased new.

A while back we removed the rear jump seats and installed an Outback two drawer and cargo barrier system, Drop slide and ARB, 40L fridge/freezer. What I didn't realise was the weight of the drawer and cargo barrier system, which turned out to be 135kg all up. + the weight of the drop slide.

Straight up this caused suspension travel problems with the rear air bags bottoming out, even going over a parking lot speed bump would cause the rear suspension to bottom out.

We installed a set of 2" lift air bags in the rear from the Air Bag Man which did improve the travel but has not solved the problem.

In addition to this I now have to have the suspension setting on Sport mode to help dampen the compression of the shocks to try and stop the rear bottoming out.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and possibly found a fix.

    Cheers Mark

    Needs new shockers.
Air bags only control the lift height.

I Don't think the shocks are the problem. This only started when we added the weight of the drawer system. Funny enough we don't have the problem when the caravan is hitched up.

I'll go down to Dobinsons Suspension and get the shocks tested. At lease we will know.

If you've replaced airbags then it is either shocks ( most likely). Or The airbags are set at the wrong height.

What is the distance from lower rim to guard?
