  • Gday to all.

    Gday to all,

My name is Wilson and reside in Perth ( suburb of Joondalup ). I will admit I have been reading all over this site for the past couple of months just soaking in all the great information on all facets of everything Prado and beyond! So I thought it just to hop on and finally say Hi and be involved.
Let me say it's a credit to all you members on such a great forum, as a " novice" so to speak on the Prado, it has helped me heaps to narrow down my (near) future purchase.
After a few test drives, heaps of questions, looking about, I have just kicked off with some negotiations with the dealer on purchasing an 2008 GXL 3.0 TD Auto in White. We are just getting down to the sharp end of coming to a mutual price and I'll be locking it in and as I understand, let the delivery wait begin!!
Briefly a little about me, I am a Power System Controller for the states energy supplier here in WA, currently drive a Mitsu Evolution 8 MR Jap import which I will be giving up for the Prado. Married with 2 kids, 5yrs and 2yrs and ultimately once the Prado is sorted out we want to get into a camper trailer and hit the road for some travelling with the kids.
Once again, Hello, and as my knowledge grows on all things Prado hopefully I can add value to this forum.
    Cheers, Wilson.

Thanks guys for the welcome, hopefully I can put two-bobs worth in every now and then,

Lofty - to be honest, due to the fairly cold mornings at the moment we haven't really seen a great deal of reduction in power usage, probably marginally less. I know Verve ( ex western power generator) are pulling generators out of "mothballs" and firing them back up again because they run on coal to try and cope with the gas shortage. Plus there are a heap of smaller generators around the state that are running full tilt on good ol' diesel !!! Costing millions dollars a day. One power station if running the turbines on diesel need a constant road train of tankers just to keep the tanks topped up and obviuosly the machines running. Work that out at $1.88/litre !!!!!!!

          Cheers, Wilson.

GDay pomp - yeah well pretty much going to be using it mainly for touring with camper trailer and the odd adventure off the beaten track. I'll just add those elusive accessories as required. Pretty much just gone for the standard gxl, although did consider the option pack and I'll haggle for some gen access thrown in (tow hitch etc) and see how I go.

                  Cheers, Wilson

I've only had my car about 6 weeks but I wish I knew more about what I was going to use the car for before I ordered.
I didnt know much about 4WD so didnt even consider my options before I ordered (then I found this place)
                    Hindsight is a wonderful thing

                    Things I would do differently....

                    1. I wouldnt have bothered with the hard rear wheel cover, saving myself $500
                    2. I would have upgraded the tyres pre delivery to something decent for all terrain use (hence the cover is of no use as it doesnt fit over the higher profile tyres)
                    3. I wouldnt have ordered the expensive Pioneer AVIC sat nav system. Much cheaper ones on Ebay that will also run Ozi-Explorer with the full double din 7inch display.
                    4. I would have used the money I spent on the Pioneer for the factory bullbar.
                    5. Also worth considering option pack one, it gives you Traction control and downhill assist, plus the extra air bags.

But hey Im nitpicking, its still a great car and I will get my ideal set up eventually.

Hey pomp - yeah I take on board what you say, I've definately been reading up on all things 4wd/camping/accessories etc etc but I suppose there will be something that falls into "geez I wish I had done ..."

Wilson, agree mate, I'm sure we've all said a few times "wish i had known 'xyz' b4 buying that", i'ts all part of the learning experience, just sometimes those buys cost you more than you would hope.

Thats why PP is such a gem, potentially saving huge $ with the free advice etc
