After nearly 12 years ownership I'm at last considering moving on from the trusty 90 series to something a little newer. Each time I come back from a trip it seems I have to repair/replace something so I'm starting to loose a bit of confidence in the old girl.

I just got back from Bremer Bay, where, on a sloping sandy track near the beach in Fitzgerald River National Park the four bolts connecting the lower control arm to the lower ball joint decided they'd had enough. The CV was pulled out of the diff and the wheel was pushed up into the wheel arch badly damaging the fender. Luckily we were able to reinsert the CV without any problems and managed to scab four bolts from elsewhere on the car to reconnect the control arm and ball joint.

I'm considering looking at something like Pickles for a replacement 150 series, so just after a bit of info from those that may have gone down the same path. Are they really any cheaper, can a good bargain be had? I went to one of their auctions about 18 months ago at my sons urging, but they had very little on offer that interested me at the time so I left before they finished. I guess most Prado's they'd be selling would be ex mine/rentals so its a bit of a risk, but the 90 series I bought had obviously been through an auction house and was an ex miner and its been a great vehicle.

You can see vehicles up for auction on their website, but are you able to find out how much they actually sold for, or do you have to be there on the day? Pickles Perth is nearly 50kms from home so its going to be a bit of a mission getting there, not to mention time off work. Any feed back welcome.

The 90 series is going in for panel and suspension repairs this week, then off to the mechanic for a thorough inspection before I make my mind up about its future.

if you make an account at pickles you can log into the auction and watch them go through if you cant get there

you can get some good buys and you can get some that have big issues (in the salvage part)

when you see one listed, call them and ask them to do a walk around for you at their convenience (but it is best if you go and have a look at it yourself)

I asked a pickles guy a while ago and the average 150 goes for about 32k, this was 3 years ago when the average retail for a 150 was about 40.
Check in the rear area where the jack is kept and that will tell you where it spent it's life.
As you'd expect there are some lemons out there but you should be able to pick those straight up.

Hi mate , a few tips that I learnt from buying at auction.

If you want a clean car go for Government Auction vehicles, pickles usually states whether it's a government auction.
I bought my Aurion without even looking at it and it was immaculate when I picked it up. Government vehicles are generally well maintained as it is part of the employee contract to keep the car in good condition. Also most government workers are pretty sensible and boring people so car won't be thrashed.

Also there is a flat rate auction fee on government auctions ,I paid $330. Where as general auctions is a percentage of final sell price.

Make sure you check the Condition Report for the car if it's interstate , this is located online for each and every vehicle that pickles sells. It was pretty accurate for my purchase.

If the car is interstate and is out of factory warranty but your worried about it mechanically , find out where the vehicle was serviced by calling pickles, they will check log books and tell you the dealer name. Then call the car dealer and give them the rego number and they will tell you the full service history they have.

They will tell you everything , they were not concerned about privacy policies if any. I was told of factory faults fixed on particular cars and wether a service was missed etc etc

        I hope this helps

Check out Westside auto wholesalers in Bentley as well. They don't do actions but there is a huge range of vehicles there and pricing is pretty competative. Had a look today and it was like a kid in a candy shop.
Especially the F650. Good for dropping the kids off at school!!

If you look carefully you will see that this is a form of spam. There is a link hidden at the end of the message. It's hidden because it was inserted using a white font, and so is invisible unless you drag your cursor across it. It's a common form of spam here. I have reported this instance.
