Hi All
I currently have a Challenge Camper trailer that's is registered under the 750 kg so no brakes.
I think when fully loaded it is over the 750 kg mark.
What I am wanting to do is match the tyres on the camper to the same as the Prado 150 GXL 2014 model and get brakes installed.
I am unsure how to go about this. Camper trailer currently runs 235/75/R15 and Prado has original size tyres 265/65/R17
I have looked at the height difference in the tyres and currently there is 1.7" (4.32cm) in height difference.
I am hoping some one can point me in the right direction to get this started.
Would I be better of getting the tyres and rim size matched then worrying about the brakes after this?
Who is best to speak to in regards to getting the tyres matched, Tyre place? I think after doing some research that the axle on the trailer may need replacing to match Prado offset etc?
By installing brakes would I be required to re-register the trailer as a Braked trailer?
Has any on else done something similar with a camper?
Main reason I want to do this is so I can carry 1 less spare when doing longer trips. Planning on doing a 4 week trip June 2018 to gibb river etc, Last time I did this I carried 2 spares for camper and 2 for the 100 Series I had at the time, but would love to be able to just carry the 3 spares in stead of 4.
Camper is due for new tyres and currently don't have a second spare for the Prado so was thinking I could buy a set of 4 rims and tyres to change over the camper and have 2 spares.
Thanks all in advance for any help or info.
cheers Corny
