  • 2014 face-lift diesel 3.0L GXL display/CD player/LCD display unit issue

hi guys, need some help here.
I got the 2014 Prado diesel facelift version. No GPS.

A few days ago, how I found the issue is: when I drive the card, the screen still shows reversing camera view. I knew something is not right, so I parked, and turn on and off the car. Then the Toyota screen show up and then the screen turns to black, I can see the background light but the screen itself it black.

Last night, I start the car again and it only shows 'toyota' on the screen, radio and cd are working even though I can see the options on the screen.

It's very strange and every time I turn on the car, it is behaving differently. The only change I did prior the issue is to replace the internal bulb with LED. Will this affect the electronics of the display? Is there a quick fix or a way I can restart the whole unit?
Thanks a lot, I guess when I take to the dealer they will quote me a pricey replacement.

I have a 2015 GXL which does have GPS so must be similar (except the GPS) to your unit. I have stood the vehicle up a couple of times so I disconnected the battery. When power is restored the head unit appears to load, a bar graph progresses along the screen, which takes longer than a normal start up.
This certainly doesn't cause any harm so you could try it although it does sound as though something more could be wrong with your unit.

Edit as I have thought of something else!
Does your unit have Toyota link? as I know that this can reinstall apps.

Thanks John. I do have Toyota link, but I hasn't been use it for a while. I am not really petrol head type of guy. So basically, I just need to disconnect the positive of the car battery and re-connect it? thanks again.

Yes I am not sure how long you would need to leave it disconnected but I suspect not for long. Your unit should then boot up from scratch and if it is anything like mine you will see a bar along the screen as it loads.
If your head unit is buggered there are alternatives unless keeping the original look is important to you. There is a thread somewhere on the forum about a 10 inch screen android powered unit including GPS and goodness knows what else for a reasonable price.

I had mine replaced under warranty. It did the same thing -reverse camera staying on while going forward, random blank or Toyota screen, buttons not working.Radio still worked but I couldn't tell what radio station I was on.I tried a hard reset (hold down on/off button until radio reboots) but that didnt work.
New unit costs over $2000 and a rebuilt one via Fujitsu ten is about $1200.
I think its a common problem and Toyota should come to the party as a radio should last longer than 3 years. There's even an article about it.
