Hi crew this is my first post and no doubt it will be in the wrong area. But hey that's how I usually roll. I've just purchased my first 4x4 being a 2010 VX DIESEL Prado and not even seen the dirt yet. Judging by the cars internal parts from having a little look around behind panels etc I don't think it's been off road before either. I'm not looking to be a mad off road trip type (famous last words) but I'm sure it will get me and a couple of mates to a few new fishing spots at the very least. I have skimmed through the owners manual a few times in both directions as us blokes always do, but can't find or keep missing the section on how to reset the fuel usage and economy readout. I've refilled the tank today for the first time since purchasing it and have reset the both A and B trip meters, the time part of the display but nothing else has changed, (apart from being a bit poorer) but don't seem to be able to reset the " economy since last fill" part also the km's to empty have not reset either. Can someone tell me wtf I'm not doing please. Thanks in advance

Resetting fuel usage readout

I have a GX not a VX, so it may be different (I only have the instrument panel display not the screen above the stereo), but all I do is scroll to the display I want (distance, ave speed, fuel economy, etc) and hold the button down until it resets. The KM to empty should look after itself, I don't think there is anything you can do to reset this.2010 GX Turbo Diesel

To reset the overall fuel economy, using the steering wheel control up/down button navigate until the fuel economy is shown, then press in the 'enter' button for a couple of seconds and it resets.

Did you just top up Pete, or was gauge down and only put some in.
From memory when I topped up once, it took a long time to adjust. Was only 20 or 30 lts had van on heading away at the time, thought it would save a stop on the road.
I usually only fill when it will take 110 to 130lts, it shows new range just after you then start drivingCheers

Hi Pete.
I have a 2016 Prado Kakadu Auto V6 which probably has more similar instrument readouts and controls to yours than some others mentioned above.
My controls have:
1. the average economy in litres/100 klms. This can be reset by using the enter key to scroll to this readout and then holding the enter key down until this figure resets to 0 liters /100 kls. This is probably what you are wishing to reset.
2. I can also view a bar graph showing instant litres/100klms which in my vehicle is a horror story unless I am rolling downhill lol!
3. Like you, I can also view an after refill litres/100 klms figure and this resets everytime I refill (or part refill) the tank. It usually shows something like 19.7 litres/100klms on reset but this goes down as you drive. To be honest this is a completely useless readout.
4. The Kakadu also allow you to use your audio/navigation screen to set to an economy readout which shows a very interesting bar graph showing past and current fuel usage.
In my V6 petrol, if you were worried about the cost of petrol or fuel consumption you would never have purchased this vehicle however if you wish to cruise at 110klms + with ease in a car that in my case weights 2.7 tonnes (before loading any gear) and can easily over take anything with ease, up or down hill, with minimal short and long term maintenance costs, then this was the only choice for me. Note that at this stage I did not want a V8 diesel Landcruiser but may purchase one later if I ever get around to caravanning as caravanning with the 2.5 tonne limit in the Prado is a joke.
Hope this helps and feel free the enquire more but a simple equation is 4x4ing does not equate to good fuel economy!

Also, the trip meters have nothing to do with the fuel consumption read outs and the vehicle you have purchased is a very competent 4 wheel driver. Get some experience by going out with others and you will catch the bug like the rest of us. And forget about your paintwork as it WILL get scratched!
Cheers.
