  • Roof Rack Bolts

    Hi All,
A friend recently purchased a 150 Prado GX with no roof rack. I had a genuine one on mine which I replaced.
On fitting my roof bars to his car, one set of rear bolts threads are missing. (Just two holes).
I assume that previous owner fitted mine warning lights and bodgeyed the holes.
Does anyone have any idea what sort of threads are inserted into the roof to take the side arm rails?

    Thanks,
    Steve

The nut on a plate has probably fallen into the roof. Remove the roof lining to check. Never heard of a missing one before if it was untouched from the factory.

The plates (63187A) are tapped M8x1.25 from memory. Try using a longer bolt, say 50 or 60 long and see if you can pick up the plate.

        Thanks guys. Good info!
I imagine the bit is floating around in the headlining.
        Not an easy job though.

As it is the rear position, it might be easier to remove the roof lining compared to the center and front position.
