  • Reassurance

We have recently ordered a new Prado Grande, Silver Ash. We have been told to expect a wait of up to 9 months before delivery. It has been 1 month so far and delivery seems like an age away. I reckon by the time the Prado is delivered, I will have forgotten what the vehicle was even like! Can guys who have bought recent models (especially those who have owned other types of 4WD before) reassure me I have done the right thing??? How impressed are you with your vehicle?

We are upgrading from a Rav 4. I must say we were so impressed with the Prado at test drive we did not even bother to try out a Patrol or Discovery which were also on the radar at the time.

Nick, 9+ months is too long. Ok if it's a hard to get, hand built supercar.

I have just taken delivery of my 4th Prado so I'm obviously biased. The 1st two were Grandes but when Tojo bumped the price up on this model to attract serious dollops of luxury tax, I dropped back to the GXL and am still very happy - I don't need sun roofs (get burnt), leather seats (cover them anyway), etc, etc. In a 4x4 these thing aren't going to do much for resale anyway.

That said, I'm sure you will be extremely happy with your unit when it eventually gets to you.

Where are you Nick? Chuck it in your profile so anyone else in the same area can comment but that seems like a long wait!

My sister in law recently put in an order for a Kluger which is 4-8 weeks but was told at the same time that Prados are about 9 months. This was in Adelaide. I do believe that the 9 months was regardless of Petrol or Diesel.

So waht does that tell you in which car is in high demand?

We got our VX in march after a 4 month wait. It is a great vehicle; even my wife thinks so  We are happy we waited and didnt settle for lesser makes.

I am buying in Adelaide. The time scale was the same irrespective of which dealer we asked. They do seem to be everywhere down here so I guess the demand is high (much more frequently seen than the Kluger).

Just seems surprising to me that Toyota can't make them any faster. Still, I guess if they tried to make more there may be more faults - it seems from this website and from reviews I have read they are a very reliable vehicle. Toyota do a great job I think. Our Rav is just a basic car really but although 5 years old with some bumpy dirt road trips does not have a single rattle and has never had a problem (touch wood).

We were unhappy when the dealer said the Rav would need to be revalued when the new car was ready due to the long wait. I was REALLY unhappy about that (it isn't my fault if Toyota can't deliver my car for 9 months so any cost from loss in value on the Rav should be borne by them I would have thought). After a bit of jostling, they agreed to hold the valuation price on the Rav until the Prado is ready.

Did you get this in writing :?: because people leave jobs for various reasons and the situation may have changed in 9 months.
              Cheers,

I would be greatful for a 9 month wait. We will be nearly 11 months providing we get it when we have been told we will..October. I have spoken with a number of owners and all have said it will be worth the wait. Look at the positive side.... more time to save $$$ to buy more goodies to go with it.

heck 9 months - means a mid march 2009 delivery.

Another post on this site mentions a guesstimate/rumoured arrival of July 09 for the all new model prado. If that's the case I'd reckon they would start winding down production of the current model about March 09? Could be some bargains on run outs for the current model then.

Guys to put things in perspective, I think good ol Toyo makes over 10 000 toyotas a day for the world market. So it must be a big cue.

                    It is worth the wait.

In response to Dustie, yes we have the trade price on our Rav in writing.

Re the possible new model in 2009, we did consider waiting until that came out. But then we love the current model with really no concerns. It is powerful, the most economical of the larger 4WDs with by far the biggest tank giving massive range and it looks fantastic.

Also we thought by getting the current model towards the end of its production we figured most of any gremlins/faults would have been fixed up by now.

Plus you never know what the new model will be like! It may have teething problems of its own and might look terrible...just look at what Nissan did to the new Pathfinder - it is a horrid looking vehicle.

I was also a bit worried that Toyota might start paying attention to some reviewers criticising the current model for having the spare wheel mounted on the rear door which then has to open out rather than up; also that the 3rd row of seats aren't as comfortable as in Discovery, Volvo etc. If they start trying to put in fold-into-the-floor rear seats and put the spare underneath, the fuel tank will surely be made smaller. The Discovery has a very very small tank compared with the Prado.

Nup, I'll take the current Prado just as she is thanks!

I am also waiting on a prado, I was told up to 3 months wait and its been a month wait now.... and they havent even started production of it.

I also am trading in a car and they are holding the value of the car until the prado arrives, I also have the option of selling it privately, which I am trying to do..... I have it in writing that they are holding the value....

It is definitely worth the long wait. I am more than happy with our black Prado and as I drive along every day, I remind myself how lucky I am . This is our 2nd Prado and I can't ever imagine driving another type of vehicle. I hope they never change the shape and style of it.

I remember in the fine print of my contract that if the car dealer could not supply the vehicle within 3 months then I was entitled to back out of the deal at no expense to me. Maybe a quick session with a lawyer to get advice on that though. Just something to consider if you find another one before the 9 months is up.
