  • Fridge Slide

    Gday all,

Have finally decided to just buy the slide for my storage solution in the back of the beast. How it will be bolted or arranged I’m still working on, but this is progress

I’m going for something that is reasnobly reputable and good quality, hence deciding against making it myself. ops:
Does anyone have any thoughts on the two below options? The evakool one looks nice and simple, but I do like the look of the Off road systems one, just looks ballsy and tough. Yes I realise Im comparing apples and oranges here, but any real world experience or thoughts would be much appreciated.

Tell ya what .... I'm really impressed with the pics and description of that ORS unit

As I've been looking around for a fridge slide .... and I haven't quite found one that ticks all the boxes ..... this one does.

Time to add something else to the shopping list

    Cheers

I had a Black Widow slide that used the same sort of ball bearing arrangement for the slide mechanism as the ORS slide. I found that any sand or dirt that found its way into the back of the vehicle stuck to the slide mechanism due to the grease on the bearings. I went through two of the Black Widows before settling on the Engel slide, it has sealed bearings.

hmmmmm, the Evakool one has encased roller bearings, might be the way to go......

Rainman, were you using it in particularly harsh conditions or was it just through general use?

Don’t know why, but I do like the ORS one too……

Every time we went to the beach the runners used to end up covered in beach sand and any dust that got in ended up coating the bearings as well. I found it real difficult to keep the runners clean, you couldnt wipe them down or you'd remove the grease and you couldnt apply more or it made it worse. I used silicone spray in the end but like I said eventually went for the Engel slide. It doesnt come out as far and rattles a bit with no fridge, but it seems far more sturdier.

Has anyone else noticed the eva cool 'tie downs' are ocky straps?

Didn't even know they still made these. Perfect for taking an eye out when it lets go.

Its a shame nobody makes a fridge slide that slides sideways(100ltr LPG tank lives in the back so I could keep my 2 petrol tanks). I ended up having to make my own from an old computer rack. It does its job.

I'm going to look at a Bushman fridge slide in the near future .($235)

Will take medium fridge and slides rite out.

I believe it quite easy to get to the bearings and they are open bearings so you can regrease them if you require or use white spray on grease.

Worth a look at that price no picture available yet.

Resurrecting this old thread to see if anyone who posted has an opinion or bought an ORS fridge slide has an update on how it is going now that they have had it a while.

I am looking to find a slide to fit an Engel 40 litre, model MT45FS.

Here is the link to the ORS slide: OffRoad Systems Premium Fridge Slide

There are a number of other slides around, has anyone used the one from OffRoad Downunder: OffRoad Downunder Fridge Slide

Are there any others I should look at?

                          Cheers OldGreyGuy

Hi OGG, I have one of the new ARB fridge slides to fit the same fridge. I think it's great altough it would be better if it came out a futher 50mm but it is good and sturdy and I havn't had any issues with sand and crap getting into the bearings. I'm pretty sure ARB have either licensed or ripped off the Engel design.

I'm sure the ORS slide would work great. Unfortunately you don't see them out here in WA.

I ended up using a Waeco fridge slide which is available nearly everywhere. It's built pretty
much exactly the same as the ORS one going by the link/pic. The slide is the correct width
for an Engel 40L, but is little bit longer than the engel (to fit the Waeco 50L fridges in).
I just pop riveted in a piece of alluminium angle onto the deck on the Waeco slide to keep
the fridge located. The extra 100mm (?) at the front makes a handy spot for storing bit's n
bobs like water bottles, sponges, etc. etc. Consiidering where the fridge and slide have been
                              (Kimberly/North Queensland/Red Centre/Pilbara/Canning Stock Route/Vic High Country, etc)
there's been no dramas at all.

A bit hard to see as the slide is grey, but there is the bit of alluminium at the front of the
fridge and the extra space/gap with a 40L engel.

Anyhow, just something to think about if the ORS slides are hard to come by.
