  • towing on the beach

    hey everyone.

long time since i been on due to school and holiz :P

ok, as some of you may know, we love to caravan... but we are sick of the normal on road driving. dad and I have decided we want to take the van onto the beach!!!

This will be the first time we attempt to tow the van off road.

we would like some inputs from you guys. we are going to have another family with us to help us out if we get stuck but we need some tips on towing successfully and also dad wants to test if the Prado can actually tow it. This means if anyone knows a decent beach spot to practice/test. we were thinking inskip point but if anyone else has a better place, please let us know.

......Ummmmm, Personal opinion only; That Jayco Expanda is a BIG van. Low tide on most beaches is not a big issue..... it's the getting onto and off the beach that is going to be your problem, and unless there is a 'hard surface' access, I don't think I would be game enough to try it.

We have a Jayco Eagle Outback campervan, and even with that I am very cautious with beach driving.

Bottom line, personally, unless you have hard surface entry and exit points, and low tide I wouldn't be taking the Expanda on the beach.

      Re: towing on the beach

      Hi Wilson,

Bribie island is an ideal location for this. There are ocean-side campsites that are listed as suited for campervans.

With two vehicles and a careful eye on the tides, you will have the perfect testing ground.

You can get all the campground info on Bribie from the EPA website:

      http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/parks_and_for ... tion_area/

Let us know how it goes.

      Cheers,
      LFaR.

The biggest tip i can give from towing on fraser is have your van set up so the car has done the hard work meaning the tracks of car and van matched so the car wheel are already breaking the trail for the van also and obvious one to some is if you let the car wheels down let the vanones down also
Dont list all ya mods, you will only be more upset when i get further
