  • Prado v6 alternator help please

Hi everyone, I am installing a dual battery system on my 2010 v6 prado. I have been reading endless forums on the vsr vs dc to dc charger to the point of being really confused.
My question is, is my alternator in the v6 a smart one like the diesel, I emailed Toyota and they were no help, saying toyotas don't make a smart alternator. I would prefer to just go vsr with seperate solar controller on the Aux battery, but I am a little uncomfortable with the whole add a diode to boost voltage thing. Was thinking of the redarc sbi12 vsr or if I have to go dc to dc, the projecta idc25. Even with the projector it has a smart alternator wiring option, which I don't know if I have.
I am happy to run a rude temporary voltmeter in my cab to test, but are unsure what results I want to see?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Cheers rob

I think I'll just go the projecta idc25 and wire to some wire that switches with the ignition. Do you guys think this is best idea?
Lol I want this to be over its doing my head in

Monitor the alternator voltage. It will then tell you whether it is adequate or not.
