  • Buyer beware..

    Caveat Emptor!!!!!

Like any purchase, you want to be sure of the offer, the seller and the quality of the item you are forking out your hard earned cash for.

If a stranger came to your door with some polaroid pics offering to sell you something unseen, you wouldn't do it. So the same rule applies to the Internet - perhaps moreso! Be very wary before making any purchases via Ebay. There might be some great deals, but it comes with risks.

Looks like it's been chewed by the dog or something...
On the bright side you should be able to get a new spare as most Chinese winches use similar parts...
then get the seller to refund the cost...

Well that is absolutely the pitts Matt, leave the bugger bad feedback.

Some people have a lot of nerve listing stuff in that condition.

Is it possible to get a replacement controller for it? Mind you if the controller is in that condition it makes you wonder about the winch itself.

If you get stuck with the replacement hand controller,I have a couple of Warn winch controllers,if that helps.

              Good luck

I've seen a few guys with this set up.. PITA if you ask me, when setting up or packing away and you just want to inch the cable in or out a little.

It usually ends up with one guy handling the cable and one in the car on the controls... mix up waiting to happen... then ouch, someone gets hurt.

You can see from e-bay pics that it was already "chewed" when he listed it for sale...

I've got an in-cab switch and a bar mounted socket (solenoid box is under the bonnet) both have their uses. I wouldn't be without an in cab switch for self recovery. I just bought a Warn wireless control from the US for when I fit my XP onto the Prado. Best of both worlds.

Sorry Matt, I know it's a pretty shite thing to happen, but I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the photos and read your post

I'd have to ask about the stated rrp in his ad also $1800??

You paid a bit for something second hand.... Should have got a 12000LB cheaper brand one like I did .... Brand spanking new and comes with warranty, yet to fit it on the prado though as I still have a 2 month wait on it

I would be wary of the cheapies off Ebay, an independent test broke them rather quickly on a write up recently.

Hopefully I got myself a good one.... I dont really plan on getting my pride and joy bogged too often anyway, but I am sure my partner will be taking it up bush and thrashing it without my consent.....

I am sure he will!

The testing they did split the gearbox on the thing with an 8000 pound load on the 4th pull. They also found the gearbox was almost dry (No lubrication) when they stripped it!!!!

Might be worth checking the box for adequate lube before installing it just to be safe!
