  • AM Radio 2012 Prado Altitude

I have a 2012 Prado Altitude with sat/Nav etc and the radio reception on AM is getting very poor. I suspect an aerial problem but there is no external aerial and no aerial in the windscreen and was looking for advice as what aerial system it uses, so I can try and fix or replace it. Any comments about aerial type/location appreciated. Brian DJ

    Hi Brian,

I’m pretty sure that the radio antenna is built into the rear quarter glass window.
Not certain as to which side though.

    Hope this helps.

If it's the same as mine (2010 GXL) then they have 2 aeriels- 1 on each side of the back windows if i recall correctly. I know when I fitted my aftermaket headunit I only plugged one back in (as that's all the kenwood had plugs for). And it works with no issues on AM or FM. I don't really know a lot about that sort of thing, but maybe it could be a frayed wire or something?

EDIT: On that note, if you're not adverse to pulling your dash apart maybe try unplugging each one seperately and see if one of them is causing you grief?
