  • Rough as..

hmmm thats a bit rough, i wouldnt expect that to happen, when fitting bullbar you would expect hardend washers seeing the bolts r 8.8s, i reckon they had a fair wack of pressure on em, good find though

so this is on a 2wd ute, road use only? How bad could it have being if on a 4wd on the way to the cape? The bar would have fallen off.

We pay for professional sales, fitting & after sales service and you get this crap. Shame on them.

          Far out Matt

From the sounds of it a pick handle still wouldn't have got the message through a skull that THICK

I must admit to liking our PP Tech Days even more .... there's a couple of mechanics, a fitter or two and the odd sparky ... and we get to learn how to do stuff properly.

It all payed off the day we changed out Leachy's front springs and found that the "Professional" suspension place had fitted the lower mount on the Bilstein strut upside down.

I reckon we get fooled into believing that because these guys have a big name and charge big bucks that they must be pros.

          Cheers

Maybe it's time to start our own brand of 4x4 accessory shop! At least you'd know the job is going to be of the highest of standards!!

Looks quite shite Matt, I wouldn't let this dude near a paddock bomb! Fair dinkum that is shocking workmanship.. Sounds like a case of bring em in and rush em through.

Well done with the repair job mate, sometimes if you want something done properly you gotta do it yourself.

This is exactly why i chose to fit my bar and suspension myself, that way i know its done right.

You would either be surprised or not to know that generally 4wd gear places do not employ "qualified and competent" people to drill holes and fit things to our vehicles which we have all worked bloody hard to own.

It was this same place Matt that fitted my snorkel i believe and it was this experience that led me to do the mods to my vehicle myself.

I have an almost pathological fear to let anyone do anything to my house or vehicle with out my direct involvement or supervision. Drives trades people and the like nuts but when you are shelling out thousands of dollars you want stuff done right!!!!

Tip: Always look for the mechanical repairs licence number to ensure that there is at least one person there that has half an idea and also to cover yourself in case of crappy work like described above.

                  Matt,

I must say that seems to be norm of late. Since having my bull bar and other accessories installed by a "large name brand" facility I have numerous problems with the quality of workmanship offered. Been back numerous times now and am sick of emailing/calling them and head office to complain. They just don't give a rats a#*e. Get the money and see ya later. At least you were able to get the fault fixed.

                          Crappy Workmanship

Hi there Big Fella, was talking to your other half a week or so ago and she also informed me of who you had the job done by, funny thing the same mob did myn (suspension) and I had to take it back 3 times, they stuffed the rubber boot on the front axle, just left it, got home had grease and crap sprayed everywhere. Took it back, picked it up in the arvo got home and thought Ill check it out, well stuff me they tryed gluing it together, so rang them spat the dummy big time and had to take it back again and they put a new boot on. I was also told to go to the new place at Wenty (you should know what suburb that is short for ??) as he is the best at fitting lockers. I also heard that you had to refit your driving light as all they were good for was seeing the sparkly flects shining off the bitumen Friggin joke they are. They wont ever be seeing any of my vehicles back in there again. Steve

                            all too common..

u pay people good money to do a good job and they just dont give a shit.

and then usually dont want to know about it when u bring it to their attention.

what crap are those original washers made out of?

ive always been lucky there.. all my accessories were fitted by myself and my old man at his workshop.

ill still probably do the bullbar myself when i get one for the prado.

u dont need a torque wrench for that.. just some common sense! (which again.. seems to be lacking in most these days)

I think that too many businesses believe they can get away with this type of workmanship. Many people would probably have no idea their bar had been shoddily attached. What's more, I think that people are starting to believe all too much that there won't be any consequence for letting work like that out the door. Too many people seem to think "what the hell are you going to do about it!!!". Many people, I think would cut their losses and fix the shoddy work themselves. Or, a simple Joe might go back there when the bar did fall off, not realizing that bad work was done to begin with.

I can really understand people not wanting the hassle of getting into a dogfight with the business involved. But stuff like this just isn't good enough! If I do a crap job at my work there are serious consequences. I'd get fired for a start. I think it's upon all of us, who do know a little (or a lot) about the work we're getting done, to raise hell with people who do bad work. We should march in there and raise hell! Demand to see the manager and rub his / her nose in the bad workmanship. Let them know that crap work has consequences.

It's like they say.... Evil exists because good people do nothing.
