We're not going to Jamboree but 14 kids and the 2 other leaders are going from our troop. We're going to Wagga Wagga for Easter at this stage.

After bending some thin rubbish tent pegs, it was time to make some new ones last weekend.
I cut up some 14mm steel rod up into 450mm lengths with the drop saw, bent up the rope hooks, welded them on and ground the ends to a point on the grinder.
Result new tent pegs that wont ever bend ;-)

      cheers

Nice work Robert. Might wanna take the sharp edges off the top of the pegs with the grinder or use some sort of cap on them. They'd be a bitch if the kids legs caught them as they ran by, as you cant always get the large pegs all the way down when driving into rocky ground

Good pick up Craig, but one step ahead of you ;-)
I use some of the concretors yellow plastic rebar caps over the top of the pegs.

I'll have to carry a bigger hammer now to get them in ;-)

I usually go for a walk and find some rocks to hold the lines down, works a treat and costs nothing

Living in the Pilbara we have no shortage of rocks & nice big ones at that, so use 8mm or thicker steel pegs with sharp chamfer on end. I usually try 3 different spots with the peg and if no luck then out comes the woolies/coles plain canvas shopping bags(cheap too). Since these rocks are the problem, make 'em the solution, put rocks into bags and use to anchor guy ropes. Works a treat especially if your are on one huge ass rock and no hope off sinking any pegs, also don't take up a lot of space and no weight. We also use them at the beach, have 490mm sand pegs also, but dig a hole & put the bag in and fill it back up with sand, cover over and presto anchor point. If you are careful bags can last quite a while, else if you want could probably get some decent heavy duty canvas bags made up. Happy camping, remember half the fun is getting there, the other half is cursing bent pegs taking 3 beers instead of the standard 1 beer to put them in ;-D

I found some nice 3/8 (9mm) stainless steal round and replaced all of my tent pegs with that, each peg has a nice pointy end I no longer have a problem with rocky ground.....

An old thread that I found on a Google search. I finally found what I consider to be the ideal tent peg. They are called Camp Pegs and look somewhat like specialist coach screws. Google camppegs (one word) for their Web site. Cheers.

I have 20 or so blue screws, the little ones are more than enough with several hundred kg of pulling power to pull them out. They where quite stiff to screw in to the sand at Fraser and they were not coming out in their own.
