  • Where do you put the rubbish in the car???

    Hi everyone,

The above question is one of those questions that you always come across with at that specific moment but without any real solution you tend to "Not worry" about it and the result is a messy car... I can honestly say that my passengers leg space is covered with empty water bottles and fuel receipts

So Coming back from the Auto after market expo, held in Darling Harbor a couple of weeks ago, I was shown a very interesting and unique design of a car-bin which for my opinion gets the results... I have seen only a sample / prototype but I was promised it'll be soon on the shelves... anyway worth a look:
    www.car-bin.com.au

    I'm waiting to get mine

Does any of you have a better solution?

I reckon you could buy a decent rubber mat and a bin and put one together yourself in less that ten minutes.

      Hutch...
You might be right but the hustle of finding those parts, traveling to buns or where ever... i recon I'll stick to my plan and get this one - shouldn't be over $20.00 and the beauty of it is the inner plastic bag dispenser which allows you to keep the bin itself clean from all the sticky rubbish such as fruit, ice-cream wrap etc, so you tear the plastic with the rubbish within and a new one comes out same as in a tissue box, I recon it's cool and worth the price.

      Cheers.

I used an old soft drink carton and insert a small plastic shopping bag within. I dispose of the bag at the end of every week depending on the rubbish content. If it's anything that rots, then immediately at end of the day. Cheap alternative.

We use one of those mini rubbish bin (with the lid) and plastic shopping bags as the bin liner. It sits nicely on the floor behind the centre console.

            Guys,

I used a similar solution but it always tends to fall, especially when 4WD, looking at this products base it's amazing how elastic yet strong it is and basically holds the drive shaft (just behind the console) so tight that there's not a chance it'll fall.

I don't want my half can of coke spill on the rug again.

            thanks.

My wife has found this fantastic place to put all sorts of items/rubbish/crap. Normal people would never have thought of it.

I remember the folks having bins like that in their cars over 30 years ago. Some were grippy for the flash cars with carpet & others had weights, probably sand, on the flaps to keep the bin in position over a vinyl floored trans hump.

                Everything old is new again!

Re: Where do you put the rubbish in the car???

I use one of those bags that hangs over the spare wheel (Bushranger 'Wheelie Bin'). It's great for keeping stuff out of the car without dumping it when you are 4x4'ing. I find it tends to slip down a bit during the journey but doesn't fall off (these have been covered in other threads). For the inside of the car , I went to Red Dot, The $2- shop (or some other el-cheapo joint) & went to the pet section. They have a little dog bone shaped plastic thing not much bigger that a film canister that can hang from the passengers head rest post. From it, you can pull little garbage bags designed to pick up your dogs business but just the right size in the car for a few apple core's empty drink can etc. Fill the bag, tie a knot in the top & transfer to the outside bag when you next stop. Cost me about $2- & you can buy refill rolls at around $2- for two rolls. I think they would have maybe 50-100 bags per roll.

you are absolutely right, I do remember vaguely a similar bin that had sand or rice bags as weights, it didn't have though the plastic bag dispenser which has 20 plastic bags in a roll... so it's like the mini cooper - the old that became new... I'd love one of those as well

Proudo, are you associated with the company making or selling these bins?

I have one too (Michelle Sacs)... do you cross the straps behind the wheel? I do and can't say the bag has ever slipped down, despite some hefty weights in it....

Why would you throw out or keep 'half can of coke' on the floor or in a rubbish bag?

 I also work on a similar philosophy to that of many Councils: by not providing a bin, you are encouraging people to be more thoughtful with their rubbish disposal (ie not just keep dumping rubbish inside your car). Like most rubbish bins, they will just become full and overflow, while no-one will take responsibility to empty (perhaps a little like your front passengers leg space).

   We just use small plastic bags and make sure to discard any rubbish whenever making a stop somewhere - never been a problem yet. On long trips, we take nappy disposal bags as they tie off easily and have a scent added to them which removes any smell from the rubbish. Much cheaper too and don't take up any space.

Will be purchasing a Bushranger 'Wheelie Bin' soon to store rubbish outside the vehicle during 4wd trips. 8)
