  • WAECO Fridge Temp??

    Hey All

Just purchased a Waeco CF-80 fridge/freezer combo and think its a dud.

Had it running all day on max (-18deg) and it won't freeze. Took a temp reading in the fridge and freezer compartments and they read 4deg (freezer) and 12.4 deg in the fridge.

This seems way too warm given what our house fridge reads.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

    Re: WAECO Fridge Temp??

It should freeze running all day My waeco 50 does in a couple of hours, Was it running on 240 power or 12 volt . I know that they use triple the avaregae power of a cf50 and will drain a car battery pretty quick see below direct from waeco website. If this is new I and was running on 240 volt i'd give waeco a call they have service agents all over australia. If you had it running on 12 volt you have to keep a eye out for the red error light on fridge which indicates low battery voltage and I think once the power gets below 11.5 the fan only runs on fridge not the compressor.

    Waeco cf 50 average Power Consumption: 0.86 amps/hr (@ 12V, 5°C interior, 32°C ambient temperature)
    Waeco CF80 average Power Consumption: 2.9 amps/hr (@ 12V, 5°C fridge, -15°C (approx.) freezer, 32°C ambient temperature)

      Hi 2003GXL

It's running on 240v in the lounge room with a thermal cover as well. Outside temp would only be an average of 20deg so I'm thinking something is definately wrong.

The digital readout says -18deg but the best I got last night was 10.9deg in the freezer, wouldn't even freeze an ice brick.

My duel zone 50 did the same thing for the first 2-3 days when i first got it and like you i thought i had a dud. I had it set to minimum temp and it was flat out getting down to 0 deg, anyway after a few days it got down to -18 and it's been fine ever since. I also found that if you load it up with cold stuff it gets down to set temp much quicker. I don't know what the prob was when i got it but now when i switch it on (i usually have it set to -2) it gets down to temp in an hour or 2.

          Re: WAECO Fridge Temp??

Fridge issue seems to have resolved itself after a weeks running.

Looks like they may not like the way they are transported and need a few days for the refrigerant to settle.

Fridge now gets into the -ve's and the fridge sits at 5deg.

Have you got anything in it?

It may need a a few things in it to give some thermal mass.

Some refrigerators or freezers can short cycle when empty and seemingly never get cooled off.

              Hi Mick

Yep, filled the fridge with beer and the freezer with containers of water.

Beers are now cold and I have some big ice blocks.

                Re: WAECO Fridge Temp??

I've got a Waeco CF60. Bought it new three years ago. It's the biggest piece of poo that I have ever purchased. It has failed three times, all whilst on one week trips  First two times fixed under warranty it was a poly-fuse - compressor wouldn't run. Fixed twice for the same thing.

The third time was about three weeks ago. We went on the Drive 4 Life charity tour in the Vic High Country. It failed on the second day, wouldn't cool lower than 8 degrees. The kick in the guts this time - four weeks out of warranty and Waeco wouldn't fix it  Only cost $120 to fix, but its a principle thing. Oh, for the record it was a thermistor this time.

On top of this I have had no end of issues with the thing low "voltaging" out. Even with the Waeco wiring kit installed directly to my second battery. Won't hold turbo mode when the engine is off.

I could have put the $500 bucks worth of food it has cot me towards something that works.

I will never, ever buy another Waeco product or recommend them to anyone........not even someone I don't like. My conscience wouldn't even allow me to sell it on e-Bay.

Signed, one bitter and twisted Waeco owner.

                  Re: WAECO Fridge Temp??

You mean Waco they drive you Waco

When i did a trip up to the Cape 3 years ago my mates had the same problem with the thermostat up at Punsand bay
We spoke to one of the guys at the park and he said hang on a minute.
Which he set off on a motor Bike and Came back with another 60 liter from the Rubbish Tip it had a warranty label on it saying that the thermostat had been replaced and had the same thing happen again. So we decided to pull his apart a try a fix it our self with no luck He ended up buying a new Engel in Bamaga which we had to pay through the roof for but had no other options. He has never had a problem with that.

I think this is an ongoing problem :?:

                  Cheers and keep cool

                    Re: WAECO Fridge Temp??

I wasn't going to raise the whole Engel vs Waeco thing, but whatever way I go next it won't be Waeco and I'll be telling as many people along the way as I can. In the end it will cost Waeco more than the $120. They could have coughed up and I might have now been spreading the good news about their service.

It seems you guys might have come across a couple of duds. I have had a Waeco CF-110 for 3 years and never had an issue with it. It cooled down quickly on 240 volt. We did the Cape last Sept as well as central NSW at Christmas, Fraser Island a couple of times and never missed a beat. I have 2 other friends with CF-110's. They have had them for about 5 years and no issues. These were all pre-digital controls. I now have a CF-50 and a CF-35. Used a couple of times and once again they cool down quickly. I can only comment on my experiences and I have found no issues. I think there are always duds with most equipment on the market. You just don't want to be the unlucky one.

                      Regards,

I have to agree here. We've had no problems with our Waeco. But like anything, there's always a lemon now and then. I'm sure that there's also been a few Prado owners that have had their fair bit of grief over time (see rattle threads), but this doesn't mean every Prado is bad news. Like GeoffO said - you just hope you aren't the one that gets a lemon. :?

had my waeco cf 60 for a while now and i have had no problems at all with it, it lives in the car and gets switched on when i need it,still nice and quiet, no rattles and chills from 30 deg to 2 deg in around 40min, so weather its a waeco, engel, trailblazer or what ever brand of fridge you r going to get the odd fridge play up here and there, just like buying a new or 2nd hand car, so either get it fixed or piss it off and get something different. cheers samo

Me and 2 mates just got the waeco 80 on an anaconda deal and all noticed the same thing due to the spill over design and all the cooling stuff in the freezer it seems to take about 24 hrs untill everything temp wise settles @ 28 ambient minus 16 gets 4.5 degrees in the middle of the fridge compartment
Dont list all ya mods, you will only be more upset when i get further
