    Re: Portable Camping Showers

I removed the entire original Coleman fitting. I must have tried every 3/4 inch adaptor brass, plastic and couldn't find one to fit hence I removed it completely.

Just saw this - sorry I haven't replied earlier.

I'm not sure what the rating of the bilge pump is as I have lost the packing. It's the smallest one available. When connected to a normal hose it pumps quite fast, ( I'd guess about 5l a minute ) but with the shower connected the flow seems no stronger than the little pump that comes with it. There is a valve on the shower head so you can regulate the flow anyway.

I'll try and get a pic of it operating - it's all packed away in the shed atm.
      Cheers, Wayne

Thanks for the reply.Had a bad run with BCF.SHOWERS.Returned 3.just fried.Got caught out with one at double island. We were not impressed.Bought a turbo shower from Springers 12v. so far so good.Three trips.I'll prob. pack a spare or do what you have done. The turbo looks the same costs the same as the BCF one.My only concern was water use with bilge pump.If you can help with that great. :?:

We have had one of these for the last couple of years and they are very good. Bit noisy at night in the bush as it makes a deep 'whoosh' noise and the sound carries but have had no complaints from other campers. Usually fill a canvas shower and use that because of camping rules at our favourite site. Also use it to provide hot water for washing up. Looks after 4 of us for about 2 weeks on a 2kg gas bottle.

Thats not bad 2kg for 2 weeks , the minus for the colman was that it uses the gas cartages . while this one uses the same bottle you use for cooking and lighting, this was I thought was a plus for this one . cheers Digger

My Hot Water On Demand came with a 1.5m hose for connecting direct to a refillable gas bottle (3/8" I think...). You can buy one for about fifteen bucks and will pay for itself in no time - plus means no need to lug/purchase bespoke gas cartridges. Last summer the whole of Victoria seemed to be out of Coleman gas cartridges for about two months (!), but with this adapter/hose not a problem.

                  Re: Portable Camping Showers

I stuck with a simple 12volt solution and a bucket of water which suits the tropical weather in Far North Queensland.

If the better half feels like a hot shower, one kettle of boiling water mixed with remaining cold water in a 10lt bucket is spot on.

                      Companion Aqua Cube

I saw a new product today at a local camping store....its a companion brand aqua cube. It's quite impressive. Comes with everything except for the gas bottle and the 12 volt power supply. Nice neat little unit, complete with a carry bag.

Retails for around $299. Haven't bought it yet, but it looked great!

                      Here's a pic.

                        Re: Portable Camping Showers

I found these on the net and thought they were pretty neat (if not a little pricey at $349) that's the online price ... they have local distributors where hopefully you could get one cheaper:

You can heat them up on the stove, in the sun or next to the fire even. We have a Coleman HWOD so would just use that but it is always nice to have options for heating shower water.

                        The website is http://www.2daloo.com/camp_shower.htm

Can't say I have seen anything quite as practical.

$349  ...what is it silver plated ?
Good idea though. Could also be use as an extra drinking water container. I'd happily pay maybe $200 for something like that, not $350.

                              Re: Portable Camping Showers

Using some ideas from various web posts i came up with this idea which i guess is similar to a Hot Jugz preasure shower - http://www.hotjugz.com/ - minus the thermal jacket. I guess if your handy you could make a jacket for yours.

I took an Aqua Systems 5 ltr preasure (weed) sprayer $12ish from Bunnings and a Turbo 12volt camping shower $24 from Jaycar Electronics. Same as the ones discussed here and available virtually everywhere. Occasionally $19 on special.
Took the turbo shower hose and cut it aprox 1m from the head end. Then i removed the wand at the trigger from the preasure sprayer and screwed/pushed the hose from the turbo shower on the the trigger of the sprayer, its a good fit. A cable tie to hold it firmly in place and your done. A bit of hot and cold water to suit, pump up and your away. The trigger locks on with a simple slide of the lever. I timed 5 ltrs and got around 4 mins with the valve on the shower head fully open which gives better preasure than the pump. Longer, obvioulys less preasure but still usable, with the valve at 50% position on the shower head valve. Probably like most i get wet, stop the shower, soap up and then rinse. I could still use the electric pump if i buy a coupling or i can use it just on its own for other things. Like most im expexting a limited life span on the pump.

*EDIT* I have just joined Prado Point despite having mine over 10 years. Ive been googling around for usefull ideas and info and find these forum boards are great. Thanks Guys.
