  • Oil Drain plug Replacement

    Hi All,

For those that are up on the mechanical side of things what are your opinions of fitting something like this http://www.fumoto.com.au/? I ask cause of my recent experience of having the transfer case housing cracked by a wrench monkee over tightening the drain plug at my last service. I am considering ordering this to prevent this problem happening again.

    Re: Oil Drain plug Replacement

I have been using one of those for the past 6 months.

Bloody good stuff, well made with quality materials and the best is that it can't open unless you want to open it.

Saves heaps of time and hassles.

Once turned off it's off, no leaks!

It does not protrude below the sump guard thingo, hence it can't get clobbered by a rock etc.

    Can I recommend, yes. 8)

How many wrench monkeys are going to recognise what it is and use it before they just attack it with a spanner?

Hi Mav,they are a good thing,as the site says Caterpiller have fitted them on various machines for quite some time, my only reservation is that its one more thing to get knocked off, youd have to be unlucky though

I have one. The mechanic loves me for it. The only downside is the original plug has an inbuilt magnet to collect metal filings. That only works if inspected and noticed I guess.

The issue I can see if using it on a IKD engine, you'd have to unscrew the valve to inspect the oil pickup, which sorta defeats the purpose.
                Cheers, Wayne

I checked out the Fumoto one and think it's brilliant. I'm going to order two for mine and my wife's car.
