I believe 27Mhz is now really only used for marine radios. Correct me if I'm wrong. Cockies, Truckies and 4bies all seem to use UHF (477).

        To answer the question. 477Mhz.

27 marine had kind of gone the same way as 27 CB... Most that I know have VHF Marine (156Mhz)

Can you still buy 27 CBs anymore?
Maybe going back to 27CB is a good idea... less background chatter/swearing, making it impossible to leave
on with the kids in the car...

27Mhz if you want to play with skip etc to someone remote - you should be able to pick one up for $50 or less or even look at hard rubbish collections.

Seriously if you want to actually have something useful - UHF.
            Cheers, Wayne

My uniden is dual band so I have both. Downside is having to run the second antenna. Plus, from late afternoon all you can hear is Indonesian fishing boats plundering our fish resources. You still get some old timers yacking on the 27 out scrub - too poor to update.

We actually had a presentation from the local CB club at a club (4WD) meeting recently. They are all still keen on it and love it but like everyone else has said less and less use them. They have great capabilities but only when conditions are right etc. And yes you can still buy a new one apparently,. no idea how much, Icom i think make them.

Re: 477MHz or 27MHz - What Are You Using?

I used and owned four different 27 meg sets years ago, then for years I never owned any sort of CB until we finally bought the Prado. Always wanted one in that downtime, just couldn't justify the money...No use for a CB at the time. Now I own A GME TX3440 in the Prado, also keep a TX610 in the glove box as a spare. I have a TX6200 as well, with accessories to suit use for when I'm cruisin' on the motorbike, and also have a speaker mic for when I'm on the Quadbike at the family property. ...Guess I'm making up for all that lost time afterall. I have seen 27 meg sets still available for sale new. Check out Prestige or Contact Communications websites. I don't know if Contact is still in business, but Prestige is, although their aftermarket service leaves a lot to be desired.
