  • Portable Camping toilets

    Hi guys,

I have done a bit of a search and I really cannot find anything about those portable camping toilets (you know the little port a potty type that take all the chemicals)

At the moment I have a "Thunder Box" type, but I am wondering if a porta potty type would be more "lady and child friendly"? and I apologise for appearing sexist.

I welcome any comments - if anyone has one, or any experiences? I assume some poor bastard (me) has to empty the thing eventually :x

      Re: Portable Camping toilets

      Hey Simmo

Have had a Porta Potti in the Camper Trailer for last few years...and before that in our tent. for the Wife and two daughters....and mainly for those nighttime visits...I think its great..because now i dont have to get up 5 times a night to ESCORT them to the loo! Where possible , we have a rule of only NUMBER ONES... and keep a separate small bucket and lid for the paper... then the emptying out is easy as.....

When kids were little they used it for NUMBER TWOS as well.... and the chemicals do a fair enough job... but some poor bastard has to empty it.... clean it.. rinse it... and again... just to be sure... and so on..

My experience for what its worth....

        Re: Portable Camping toilets

I'm a fan of the seat that has the plastic bag system, except I don't use the bag. Just dig a hole to the regulation depth ( 8-14') and carefully place the stool (the one you sit on, that is - not the other one  ) over the hole. You then cover with a layer of sand/dirt when finished each sitting. At the end of the stay refill the hole.

I find it much more pleasant than emptying the fancy ones.

Just thought I'd resurrect this thread because I'm sure everyone wants to know about 'business'

We use and swear by a modified Jimmy's Thunderbox. They work great, but need support under the box in sandy country or it slowly sinks (and tips sand into the hole)

          Also, recently came across this:

We could group buy some raw steel tube and churn these turd catchers out for next to nothing!

AJ120, an you churn these babies out for a price?

We could all pass in comfort if you made them AJ. Until then we sit constipated in the hope of some relief.

I will even buy you one of those pretty seats with the seashells in it

We took a Jimmys Thunderbox across the Simpson, added a a bit of ply so it sat in neatly and didn't sink in the sand....worked a treat and made the ladies VERY happy!!
