have priced exhaust jacks on ebay , they seem the same as the genuine ones"bushranger etc" but are almost half price. Has anyone bought a cheap one . Any feed back on exhaust jacks in general would be great. mal56

    Re: exhaust jacks

I imagine they're cheaper because of the material. The construction is pretty basic so there's no real better or worse in that sense.

I could see cheaper material getting tears/holes in it a lot easier.
Out of interest what prices are they both going for?

Do they lock in the gas? Or will they deflate once you remove the pipe from the exhaust or turn off the motor? A good one should allow you to control the deflation rate or hold it in place. It should also have good quality protection mats that won't melt against the exhaust pipe. Check also the length of the pipe and the capacity of the bag.

There's some good ones and then there are some really poor models.

We bought a cheapie from KMart about $100 tested it in the garage to make sure it was ok, worked alright, it held pressure lifted the 90 serries easily but with a 40mm suspension lift it didn't have enough height to lift the wheel off the ground so we took it back thought it wasn't much use if you could not lift the wheel high enough to get a log or something under it. So make sure you get a good height jack.

I have an Extra-Large Bushranger bag - about mid-range price, but I can't remember exactly what I paid for it now.

The gas is locked in until the hose is removed. You can regulate the amount that is removed by carefully unlocking the pipe, letting some gas out and relocking. It also comes with two good quality mats for top and bottom protection, though I also carry a carpet off-cut for added protection. The most difficult thing for me is adjusting the bag so that as it lifts, it doesn't come into contact with the side-step saddles, which are relatively sharp.

I've used mine a couple of times on my 2" lifted (with MickyT 265/70 ATZ) and it worked as advertised. I've also used it on other lifted Prados in the desert for a quick repair job. I don't leave for a 4WD trip without it.

I had a Youtube video that was taken down - they didn't like that I used an AC/DC song as background music. I must try and put that back up again.

thanks guys, from reading the specs they seem the same thickness, and come with mats or carpet, 6 m of hose and are able to be inflated with a compressor as well. I dont know if you can lock off and deflate.cost around $115 so are 1/3 of the bushranger. mal56

This is just a marketing feature. It would take everything your battery has got to get one of these enormous bags inflated via the compressor. Then when it starts to lift the vehicle, the back-pressure is so great, the compressor would cut out long before you saw daylight under the wheel.
