  • Bug/Fault identified in GME Tx3340

    Hey All,

Just thought I'd post up a little gotcha in relation to the TX3340 from GME that we ran into during the NSW run on Sunday.

If you have the GME directly to the battery, and not via a accessories/ignition circuit, when starting the vehicle with the TX3340 already powered on, the unit becomes muted/speaker turns off. No matter what you do with the volume controls, etc you cannot restore the speaker to its working state. You must power cycle the TX3340 everytime after you start your vehicle.

I dont know what the affect on this is if the unit is wired through an ignition circuit. I have sent an email to GME advising them of this, so it will be interesting to see if they acknowledge this fault and provide a fix for it.

Just got an email back from GME asking for a few other details and a contact number to discuss it further. Will wait and see what comes out of it.

Hi, i have the bigger TX 3440 and i haven't noticed a problem with it. It's wired straight to the 2nd battery though.

Spoke to GME and they advised it is a known bug in the earlier production models of the TX3340, in particular limited to pre September 2009 builds.

However that said, its very limited to certain cars, especially diesels due to the substantial voltage drop during cranking. They solution is to stick it in a post bag and mail it to them, they have a updated firmware and some new components to replace inside it the control box. Watch this space and ill update you when I get it back from them.

How do you determine if a unit you're looking to buy is pre Sept 09? Or do you just have to assume that any stock being sold now would be the later 'fixed' variety?

Good question mate. I only purchased mine a 2-3 weeks ago and mine was part of the faulty batch. All i can suggest is ring GME with your serial number and they should be able to tell you.

Took mine into GME and they fixed it no probs. Took around 2-3 hours. Takes an internal change that they have done to later stock.

And yeah - ring GME with the serial no and they can identify the batch.
