Re: petrol in the diesel
Yea you will notice that the color is 'PINK' for some of the other challanged people that drive ours/their rides. But it is not only them that do not pay attention when filling
I have made the mistake, once, but only put in about 5$ before I realized what I had done. Stopped and then filled the rest with the correct go juice. The other half was talking and talking and talking and I was tuned out thinking about something else  like the outback and not pay attention. The nozles were all the same. Not a problem 4 liters of about 160 of the correct should have not been and problem and was not. FELT LIKE A REAL NUMPTY after I did it and I made her go pay for the petrol...

Re: petrol in the diesel
Many years ago we had a mitsubishi van - petrol model.
On Christmas eve my wife took it to service station to fill (in the days when attendant filled cars)
Drove a few meters and had large clouds of smoke and and engine stopped. Went back to the station and said that she thought the van had been filled with Zoom. Pump attendant said no, defiently used diesel!!!
THey drained the tank and refilled with petrol. After spraying quantities of aerostart into the carby it started and nevr had a futher problem.Dune colour GLX with Option pack, Bull bar, Tow bar, Cargo barrier.

Re: petrol in the diesel
Hi all,
It's great to realise that I'm a member of such a big club of "missfillers". My experience was a classic stuff up. The wife and I had loaded the the turbo diesel Patrol (sorry didnt mean to swear, I've had 5 Prados since) ,with all the gear for a trip from Perth to Adelaide, 4 children, loaded roof rack, trailer with sailing dingy and all associated gear. 20 K's from the house we fueled up ready to drive to Norsman for the night. The fuel card was rejected when I went to pay as it wasnt authorised for petrol. opps
The phone calls then started, the RAC came wth the tray top to take the truck home, The father-in-law towed the trailer and took the 4 children home, I contacted Nissan who told me that I needed to have special treatments of the fuel tank, and then a mate said that was rubbish and all I need to do was empty the petrol and refill.
5 jerry cans latter we had emptied and refilled and were back on the road. i then lived in fear of a motor malfunction from that point on. 150 Ks out of perth the car fely rough and looked in the revision mirror to see a cloud of smoke, my heart sunk. Thankfully the burtn out flat tyre on the trailer was the cause and we had a great trip from ther on. The name given to me by my family due to my error "Johnny diesel" sticks to me to this date.
Its easily done!

Re: petrol in the diesel
Hi Casper. Don't feel too bad. A couple of years ago I stopped at a grotty little servo and all the pump handles on the outside pumps were black. The orange warning lamp on my 1KZ van was on meaning only about 5 - 10 litres left in tank. Managed to squeeze 50 litres of 95 unleaded into a 65 litre diesel tank. Oh Crap. It was going to cost me a small fortune to do the drain/bleed/throwaway refill thing and I was away in another city at the time. The van was hot and adjacent to an expressway so I just started it and drove quietly up and down the expressway (5km up and 5 km back between roundabouts) not letting it stop until I had covered about 50km. Then I topped up with one bottle of diesel conditioner and filled with diesel (whilst leaving it idling). Another 50km up and down then topped up with diesel. Bit of a rattle when I started up the next day but did around 200km before topping up with more diesel. No grief at all after that! I don't know that I would like to try it with an electonic injector pump but you never know. If you are stuck out in the boonies it may still be better than waiting for help and it proves that the good old diesel is pretty tolerant of dickheads. Re: petrol in the diesel
Never seem to have this issue, even the folks manage to fill it correctly. Unlike running a auxiliary battery dead flat, which is another matter :?
Diesel pumps these days have a flap over the nozzle saying "diesel" lift flap to remove nozzle.
I always fill up on the quick fill pumps where all the line haulage semi fill up, 15 minutes on the standard flow rate is unbearable.
If you see them filling up then your fairly safe, apart from water contamination.

Re: petrol in the diesel
Former supervisor filled the long range tank on the work Patrol with 145 litres of diesel. Went to pay with the fleet card only to be refused by the attendant who told him "This card is for purchasing petrol only!" It was a petrol vehicle.
Yes, we still occasionally have to put up with a petrol powered Patrol whilst most in the fleet are t/dsl.Dave

Re: petrol in the diesel
I got very strange looks in Iceland when I pulled up at a petrol station for the first time and all the pumps were labeled in Icelandic, so I proceeded to sniff all the nozzles to see what the heck I was going to pump into the little Hyundai Getz we had rented. Pumped a bit of god knows what and it looked and smelled like petrol so I filled er up. Thank god it turned out to be the correct stuff. Felt like a damn junkie though sniffing all that fuel......  # 2007 D4D GX # Full Privacy Tint # Flinders Red # 2 x HID LightForce 240 Blitz # ARB Winch Bar # Alloy Rims # Hilux Washer Jets # Stebel Nautilus Compact Truck Horn # ARB Alloy Roof Rack # ARB Dual Battery System # Charcoal Rough Country Canvas Seat Covers # Suspension:Autocraft Bilstein Shocks/Struts & Ridepro Coils # L.E.D Side Marker Lights # ARB Onboard Air # Pirelli Scorpion LT ATR 265/70's #--Custom 3"exhaust---

Re: petrol in the diesel
Yeah the Minister for finance did it to ours once about 2 years ago. Rings me up at work all upset that the car has conked out outside her nan's place.
My first question - is there any fuel in it?
Her reply - yeah i have just put $50 in it....
Shot out from work, switched tanks, bled the unleaded out using the primer, crank, crank, off she went.
Drained the tank a few days later and refilled with the oily stuff and no problems ever since.
Only problem now she drives a new petrol Lancer - cant wait till that gets a gutful of Diesel!!!

At least you can do that with a 95, cant switch the tanks on the 120.06 GXL TD 5 spd man, Dual Batteries, Safari knock off Snorkel, Sov. Bar, BFG ATs, GME TX3420, Safari Dtronic, ARB Compressor.

Its just another one of those calls you just dont want to get. I got the call today that the missus had filled up the car with petrol, took me a second or two to realise she wasn't talking about filling up the d4d in the generic sense. Anyway the good news was that she realised the mistake before starting the car, so it just ruined her day waiting for the tanks to be drained and not the car.
It has also improved my day as I had a reason to browse the pradopoint and read some of the stories about similar incidents.Prado GXL 150 D4D, OME Suspension, Safari Snorkel, Brown Davis Underbody Guards, T13 Bull Bar, Warn XP9.5, 285/70 r17 Cooper STTs on Dick Cepek Torque rims,
