  • Factory Satnav on 2018 GXL is dated 2015

I've just taken delivery on a Jan2018-built GXL. It came with this Satnav system installed:
IGo My Way version 9.12.14.545514 dated Jun 2nd 2015

Yes, a 2018 build plate car with a satnav almost 3 years out of date.

Not a huge problem because I'll just go on using my TomTom (with free lifetime updates) and Hema but it's not very impressive.

Has anyone got their dealer to do a free update? I'll ask at the 1000km checkup but it would be handy to know if anyone has achieved free updates.

There is quite a number of threads on this subject.. Some of them have had later maps updated possibly.

Ha Ha thank you CamJam yes it has been a bit warm in the west so I have been bobbing about on the ocean today.
Now where can I start, obviously Yellowdog hasn't had a chance to read my many threads on the subject so I will try to recap for him as briefly as possible.

The main reason is that Toyota Australia AKA the "guest experience centre" treat their customers as idiots. The second reason is that we let them get away with it.
@ Yellowdog if you haven't tried already I can tell you it is a waste of time complaining to the dealership, Toyota Australia, a Senator, consumer protection etc the only way to run the software that you want, not what Toyota forces on you is to spend a little over half of what Toyota charge for a "new" map (already 12-18months old when released) on a Chinese android head unit.

Thanks JohnLynn. That's what I wanted to know. I've had enough problems with Telstra today and I don't need to start getting mad at another target (Toyota), so I'll just keep calm and happily keep using my TomTom and Hema.

Yes I wouldn't wish dealing with Telstra on anyone, I can remember before I realised that there are ISP's out there that actually know what they are doing, having conversations on the "help" line.
I had a problem browsing and had traced it to one of their DNS servers. They wouldn't accept that it wasn't caused by my PC and made me run through their tick list, finally asking me to "reload windows" I declined.

Anyway I digress, please would you send an email to the "guest experience centre" asking why your new vehicle has three years out of date maps. If we don't collectively do this nothing will ever change. It will be interesting if you could post their response, initially it will be "we have never heard of this before" then when pressed they will tell you that "it takes 12-18 months to integrate a map into the vehicle" You could then ask why other companies can manage to do it faster and perhaps suggest that they fire the "integration team"

Edit by co-incidence I have recently updated my iGO maps, speedcams, junction view, poi's etc to 2017 Q4

When i asked at delivery time about the updates i was told i can buy a new SD card chip with a new years worth of updates periodically at a cost of around $500 per new SD card ....... sounds a bit crap to me if i have to buy one already ( two months old ) to get me from 15 to 18. That said i would be doubtful that the MY18 information is even ready yet and probably be lucky to secure a MY17 SD card

once the SD card is bought surely it could be ripped and re distributed haha

It is not possible to load downloaded iGO maps onto Toyota navigation SD cards. This is because of several reasons, the card is locked to Toyota units with it's CID which cannot (usually) be changed. The .exe of the main iGO program is hidden deliberately in the factory unit and is not on the SD card. This is why downloaded maps will not work, all units that will run them have a modified main program file.

And this is what you would see if you had an android head unit
