  • Dealer skipped service

I bought a used 138'000km Diesel Prado 4-5 months ago from Downtown Toyota. It was sold with "full logbook/service history". I checked the logbook at the time and somehow completely failed to notice that the 120'000km major service had been skipped entirely. Maybe I was misled by the fact that they did do the 130'000km service and, being an idiot in a rush, I failed to check properly.

It's far too late for redress at this point. It's my own fault for buying the car without being careful enough. So obviously I have to eat the cost.

So anyway, I dropped off my car for its 140'000km service today, which is when the mechanic pointed out my costly mistake. They're belatedly carrying out the major service now.

My question is this: how severely will this affect resale value down the road? Are we talking $1-3k loss, or more?

As for the car itself, what are the chances that it got damaged as a result of my oversight? I did unknowingly let it run 20'000km over a major service interval after all, so surely that can't be good for the engine and other parts.

I'm definitely kicking myself right now. Not just for the mechanical consequences and monetary loss, but for being taken advantage of by the dealership by buying the car for more than it was worth given the service history (totally my fault though. Which makes it worse). Ugh

Do you anything in writing about the full service history? Saved ad, dealer paperwork etc?

Unfortunately not... just checked my emails, photos, screenshots, etc. Nothing there. I'll just have to look at this as an expensive life lesson.

If it was on carsales etc you might be able to find an archived file.

            1. Search for your rego plate on the internet - car sales stuff will usually come up
            2. Log into the Toyota Guest Experience thing and create an account. Just check to make sure it HASN'T been done - it'll be on there if it has/ has not.

I don't think anyone's going to care too much with respect to your resale...
