  • 150 Prado or 200 Cruiser?

I'm currently thinking of upgrading from my 150 Series Diesel GX Prado with 130,000 km's to either a newer 150 Series Prado or a 200 Series Landcruiser.

For around $50k in WA you can get something along the lines of:

    - 2016 GXL Prado with 110,000km's
    - 2008 GXL Landcruiser with 190,000km's

I'm only looking at diesels with an auto transmission for either car.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? I realise I am posting this in a location likely to attract more positively biased views towards Prado's, that's all good!

    Hi,

Firstly I would also be looking into vehicles on the east coast too. There is a tonne of 2015/2016 2.8l Gxl Prados with around 50,000km on them for that price point. For a few bucks transport cost, it would be a worthwhile avenue to look into as that is half the klms of vehicles you are referring to on the west coast.

Do you require the car for towing? The Prados of that vintage are only good for 2,500 kg towing compared to the 200 series 3,500.

Dont get me wrong a 200 series would be awesome but if you don’t require the tow capacity or size, the 150 Prado would be more practical in many ways.

To name a few Pros & Cons

    1.
The Prado will be 7/8 years newer than the 200 series.

    2.
Much lower klms for the same price

    3.
4 cylinder rego compared to 8 (cheaper)

    4.
Fuel bill cheaper in the Prado

    Hope this helps.

The 200's have a fairly underwhelming payload for a vehicle of that size so dont get wrapped up in that 3.5t tow capacity - if you're giving the GVM a good nudge before you hitch up you'll have to leave someone or something behind when you depart!!
      Cheers
      Micheal.

The early 200 series Landcruisers (starting around 2008) had a known issue with high oil consumption in the V8 Diesel. You would want to check that this is fixed before purchase.

Definitely look east coast and transport it, I just picked up a 2016 GXL prado for 48 cash and only has 55k on the clock.

I can't see it being anymore than $1400 to send it from east to west, and you get a car with half the Ks.

How do you go about inspecting it though? I don't like the idea of buying a car without seeing it in person first.

There are many companies that can do a comprehensive pre purchase check that are very thorough.

They can do paint thickness checks, compression tests etc.
Also you can pay to get a car history search/report done to see if there has been any major damage or repairs previously.

You'll easily find a 200 cruiser 2012-2014 model TTDV8 for around that money in the other states. With half the Kms of the one you mention.
