  • Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 PC v's LT

My Prado 120 will be due for a tyre change very soon. Goodbye Grandtreks. Most of my current use is on the tar with occasional off road.
It was suggested to checkout the Geolandar A/T G015's, but thus starts the confusion. There are two G015's, a G015 PC, and a G015 LT.
When I look at Yokohama promoting their tyre and the stats/graphs provided there doesn't seem to be a clear division between the two, instead they refer simply to G015. An example is their comparison graph between the G015 and G012 on their web site where there is no distinction between the PC and LT's.
Are they showing the best of each tyre? and average score between the two? I'm just not sure.

Has anyone reviewed the two versions and can they provide an informed opinion.

    Thanks

    Hi EddieF

PC generally means passenger car and has a lower load rating to LT which means light truck and load rating is higher this means it has stronger side wall on the tyre.

When I get AT's I always go for LT tyres

currently running GO12s on my 150 and find them more than adequate for my needs.

    Hope this helps

Yeah I’d go the light truck version, they should have stronger side walls, which is handy when you’re running lower psi

        Thanks guys,
Yes I think the LT's look good. the confusing part for me is looking at the Yokohama blurbs. Good performance off road, and quiet and good performance on road, but seems unclear if they are talking about both the PC's and LT's, i.e. PC's are quiet on road, and LT's are great off road. Only one graph for the G015's but there are two different tyres (Hmmm).
I think I need to rely on users opinion and stay away from the promotions.

Bumping this post as landed here with a very similar question. Yokohama offer 110H and 119S versions of the Geolander GO 15 in the 265 60 R18 size (Prado VX). Along with the promo from the manufacturer, the online user reviews also don’t stipulate which version of the tyre they are running. Many state that the tyre is good for city use with low noise, decent fuel economy etc. but without knowing what version is being used, I’m apprehensive to jump to the LT tyre that I expect to be noisier and less fuel effecient than the PC. Has anyone put the 119S version on a VX, and if so what are your thoughts?

The HT versus LT difference is in the carcass construction, the tread patterns are virtually the same with the LT having greater tread depth.

I run the LT 119S on my VX and they are extremely quiet, have excellent wet weather grip and dry road holding. In my opinion they handle better than the standard Dunlops and are no noisier.
A work colleague recently fitted the HT version to his Prado and both he and his wife commented on the improvement on road over the Dunlops.
You may notice some slight vibration until the tyres get some heat in them if you have been parked for a couple of days.

The exact type of response I was chasing thanks Leethal. Have you taken your car onto any soft sand and how did the LT’s perform… did you notice any difference in fuel economy?

I'm very happy with my GO15 AT LT tyres after 60K kms. Not sure of the exact markings. No problems with noise on bitumen, which is my main usage. I've done a number of rough outback tracks with them and they've performed well.

                    Selthy,

Fraser island is regular trip for me and they are fine on the sand, being a stiffer construction occasionally I have had to drop pressures a bit more than I used to with LT 114S or HT 110H tyres but definitely very capable on sand.
Consumption wise I have no noticed any difference, I find my right foot is the main factor for economy. Both acceleration and cruising speed, I find cruising at an 100 km/hr indicated (speedo) is measurably better than a true 100 km/hr (GPS)
This was reflected in the fuel economy when I ran a set of 265/70/17's LT 119S for touring while the original 18" Dunlops were wearing down before being replaced as the bigger tyres meant the speedo was accurate (at 100 km/hr) and consumption was up even after factoring in the greater circumference, reduce speed to 95 km/hr indicated and consumption improved.

The Yoko GO15 AT isn't the most aggressive looking AT but seems to work very well in my experience. That they are available in a 265/60/18 LT 119S is a definite plus as well for me especially for outback touring as those roads tend to destroy HT tyres and lighter construction tyres. That lesson I learnt the hard way lol
