My Prado keeps locking the doors after about 20 seconds, even with a door open. Can anyone explain why and how to remedy this annoying feature.

I suspect that there is one door that is not reporting its state properly. The normal situation is when you unlock the car and do not open a door, the vehicle will re-lock itself. If the door switch or its wiring are faulty and do not tell the Body Control Module (BCM) that the door is actually open when you open it, the BCM will then re-lock the vehicle. I expect that only one of your doors will cause this behaviour. Try opening a different door after unlocking your car and see if the car re-locks itself.
Once you know which door is the offender (by the sound of it, your driver's door), you will need to trace the sensor wire until you either find a broken wire or bad connector. If a door sensor is connected to the metal body ("ground"), the BCM should detect that that door is open. If the door switch does not "ground" the sensor wire then the BCM thinks the door remains closed. Alternatively, if there is a break in the sensor wire or there is a bad connection in one of the wiring loom plugs/sockets then the door-switch state does not reach the BCM.
Report back which is the offending door and I'll see what I can find on the wiring for that door (wire colour, junction points and locations of these junctions.Last edited by GeeWhizz; 27-10-2021, 07:07 PM.
