Hey guys,
I would like to share some concerns that I am having with my 2019 Prado.
The car was handed over to me mid February 2019. It is the 2.8L Diesel model, manufactured in January 2019.
When I purchased the car I also bought Paint protection and also interior protection, the dealer calls it the Hydro Pack.
When the first time I opened the door of the car, I can immediately smell the strong chemical smell. The dealer told me it is normal for a new car and the smell would fade away in a month's time.
Plus since I also let the dealer tinted my two front windows, I was not allowed to open the windows for two days. The smell was HORRIBLE. It has caused irritation to my eyes, nose and throat. And for the days I had driven the car, I became really sleepy in the early evening. All my friends have told me this level of strong chemical smell is definitely not normal for any new vehicle, and suggested me to contact my dealer. So I went back to the dealer, and once again they just said its normal and suggested the smell would fade away in about a month time.
So for most of the past one month and a half, I had to park it inside the garage with all the doors and windows opened. The smell has faded significantly but still a lot higher than other new cars.
The air quality test kit just arrived so I gave it a go this afternoon. The results are not so comforting.
The first image is the air quality for open air, and the second image is the air quality inside my car.
First test item is "Level of Formaldehyde", in mg/m3 and PPM, the second test item is TVOC, which is Total Volatile Organic Compound.
Third line is Evaluation of the Harmful level, which states very toxic and harmful.
The last three items are temperature, humidity and battery level.
I bought this kit in China, it did say on its packaging that this kit is not a laboratory instrument and the test result is only a suggestion, and cannot be used for experimental and scientific purposes.
I am just wondering if there are any other Prado owners having the same issues with their Prados? and if anyone can offer me some suggestions to deal with this issue.
Thank you very much.
