Struggling in reverse?

Hi fellas,

My dad has been having issues using reverse up hills in his 2010 Prado.

It’s almost like at a certain angle the car just has no power any more and stalls. If slipping the clutch it just pours smoke and still won’t drive up the hill.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue in this car?

A bit more information might get some responses. When reversing up hills is he backing a trailer/van or just the Prado?
Does his Prado have Hill Start Assist? If so possibly it is staying on.

Again more information regards his model Prado will help.
