2018 Prado rear reversing camera

I have connected a camera, added to my camper-trailer, into the reversing camera wiring of my MY2016 (Built Jan 2017) Prado GX. Yes, you can use a 12v camera - I have tried a cheap camera from Jaycar (and even cheaper ones off Ebay): both work well.
I accessed the wiring on the back of plug RQ1 at the bottom of the rear driver's-side pillar: refer to attached photos. Note that the Prado uses a 4-wire circuit for its cameras. Two ground wires - one for the power feed and one for the video return. You should extend both ground wire all the way to the trailer's camera. If you have a three-wire camera, connect the two ground wires together at the camera. I feed 12v to the extra camera from the accessories power feed to the OEM 240v inverter at the back of the Prado. This keeps the camera on and ready to work immediately. The 4th wire is the video feed from the camera (about 1v peak-to-peak). I have added a small box with a relay in the back of the Prado to select the trailer camera when required.
Toyota's wiring colours are a bit illogical:
* CGND Brown/Orange Cable shield. Doubles as 0v power/ground to power the camera
* CB+ Black/silver paint dabs core Camera Battery (Camera Power +6v for OEM camera only)
* CV+ Red/silver paint dabs core Camera Video Live (CVBS video signal)
* CV- White/silver paint dabs core Camera Video Return (independent video signal ground return)
I have bought a made-to-fit dashboard switch to override the limitation of the camera-only-when-reversing with the standard Prado setup. I think it's a good idea to be able to see behind the trailer to see if someone is tailgating. Also when maneuvering into a tight space (Ie in both forward and reverse). Fitting and wiring that is still on my to-do list!
