Kakadu 2010 Rear Floor Over Seats

Just after some ideas on how to bolt down a ply wood floor over the rear seats in a 2010 Kakadu. Would like to do it myself as the system from Fourby Fitouts is a bit expensive.

Would like it to be removable as it would only be used every now and then at the moment.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hey mate,

I have made a rear platform and drawer that can be removed for the back of our Vx that utilizes the rear tie down slots in the back of the seats for anchoring.

I used the rear genuine rubber mat for a template for the floor, Then marked out and drilled M8 holes with countersunk heads in the floor to line up with the anchor points.
I used 4 x m8 unistrut nuts that fit into the slots in the back of the seats to secure the floor.

I used 18/19mm marine ply for the floor & drawer/shelf and covered it all with marine carpet.

The carpeted rear floor remains in our car all the time with the rubber mat sitting on top.

When needed, I remove the rubber mat & screw down my fridge (which is attached to a fridge slide) with about 15 screws that’s are slightly shorter than the plywood’s thickness.

For the shelf/drawer I use the same screw concept but with the use of some 18mm x 18mm aluminum angle that stays fixed to the sides of the shelf. I lift the shelf in place then screw it down using the same technique as the fridge. Then once in place i can slide drawer into the shelf when required.

The only slight downfall is that the rear seats don’t sit level (they are slightly leaning toward the back). I have never had an issue with this but are unsure of what your plans are.

Its takes me 5-10mins to install or remove the entire setup for when the rear seats are required.

Only 2 mins when it’s just the rear carpeted timber floor.

So you just bolt 4 bolts into the rear of the 3rd row seats?

Does it move much?

Yes just the 4 bolts through into the back of the seats tie downs. Never had any issues with movement.

I have a 2013 Prado VX with the electric rear folding seats. I had the same idea putting the timber on top. I tested this and when I went four wheels driving, I found I was not confident relying on the points as when the fridge is loaded up and bouncing around it moved on me. I took the seats out and placed a 19mm timber over the top. This allowed the fridge to be 120mm lower than keeping the seats. I have kept all the hardware of the seats and panels as I don’t like throwing anything away. I may put one seat back in with the fridge still bolted in the day I require the rear seats. But for now, I have the fridge bolted down really well and the draw to go next to it. I have attached a photo for your reference.
