Recently purchased a 2010 Prado GXL from a private seller. Make the hour and half drive home to be confronted with engine light, 4Lo and slip lights. Lost all power to car and had to limp home.
Taken in to a mechanic today to be told it’s a blown turbo. No leg to stand on as purchased from a private seller.
Told $3500 for aftermarket turbo fitted and various parts of the engine flushed for debris.
Going to fork out the $$ as put it down to buyer naivety and not having a mechanical inspection prior to purchase. Lesson learned.
I am wondering if anyone has had a similar issue with their Prado and if they can shed some light on what I can expect after turbo replacement (will it run like a normal Prado, am I likely to experience any other issues?) and also how this will effect resale? How do buyers feel about purchasing a Prado with an aftermarket turbo and is this likely to have a negative impact?
really just after any advice and a little bit of a cheer me up as I am being a downer and thinking that I’m going to have continuous issues with this car.
thanks in advance
