  • Front Sensor

I have just read of a fellow whose vehicle stopped suddenly because a roo jumped in front. He was towing a caravan which broke the towball and pierced the rear of the vehicle.
is this a reason to disable the front collision assist on long trips?

If the towball broke due to vehicle braking then either an urban myth or a extremely substandard part or has suffered prior damage.
Now the trailer coupling disconnecting due to incorrect hookup I would believe.
IMO definitely not a reason to disable emergency braking as a properly connected trailer should not disconnect or break the coupling under brakes.

And what's the rest of the story... Sounds like a myth to me. I have plenty of cars with collision avoidance and unless the roo was pretty well standing there it wont trigger.

If the towball broke then it was a substandard part.

Why didn't the caravan have brakes...

Unless there is pics, I call BS on this.. Its also the type of accident that images WOULD have been taken and be circulating.. now we just need the proof.

Yesterday, my Collison Avoid BRAKE symbol flashed up while I was driving on flat road in a suburb. It activated as l was driving straight, however there was an car parked on the side of the road ahead of me, just on the beginning of a long sweeping right hand bend. I guess it registered that my wheels were straight and there was something straight in front of me.

This can happen, a few of my various cars get a bit excited sometimes like this. A car in front of you turning into a sidestreet is another one that sets of the collision avoidance warning on my Ford and Toyota regularly.

Yeh, sounds like it was probably working properly there. I've experienced similar situations too. I reckon it is fantastic to have safety systems like this available. Driving cars is pretty dangerous; we're just conditioned to accept the risks.
