  • Recovery Points without Bull bar

Newbie here. Just bought a 2020 Prado GXL and want to get into some beach driving. I’m wondering if I can install recovery points without a bull bar? Or will that cause my factory standard front bar damage at first recovery attempt? Thanks

Yes you can. Otherwise if in a pinch, the standard tie downs have been used many many times. Make sure to use an equaliser strap between both points to spread the load.

This has been discussed extensively if you do a bit of a search on the forum. Bottom line as a Mech Eng having done the calcs (they're somewhere on this forum) the existing tow points are 16mm steel with full penetration butt welds front and back, and they are more than adequate for recovery. The chassis will probably fail before they pull out. Using bolted recovery points, bolted to some random holes in the chassis just gives a feel good because they are a pretty colour.

Whichever option you use, do use an equaliser strap.
