Hi,
I have a Manual Prado '08 TD GXL and need a new transfer case. I figure whilst replacing the TC I might as well take the chance to put in new clutch whilst they are there since its on the way out. Toyota Service Centre has quoted me ~$5000 for that job (most of which I think is the TC as they will be ordering a new part in from Japan which will take about 6 weeks).
My Question: Should I go ahead with this or is it reasonable/ doable to go to an independent mechanic to source a second hand TC. I am in Sydney but dont know any good mechanics who I can trust to do this and am looking for some advice as to how to approach this since the $5k is quite steep for me atm.
Any help would be much appreciated!
