Hello, would be great to hear info on anyone who has retrofitted the JBL "Greenedge" amplifier and has success stories with replacement audio.
This is the 14 speaker JBL system in the VX & Kakadu's.
Specifically im talking about the 2021 models, but i expect the 2018+ are similar.
Info seems to be lacking as to wiring diagrams and how the solution actually works, JBL/Toyota have implemented a system which is not custom install friendly and we are stuck with a "Premium" solution that is aimed at the masses. Whilst the solution is "ok" it has many issues such as sub woofer roll off at higher volumes, imaging issues with the front mid range speakers aimed at glass, an untunable DSP within the JBL amp , door speakers that only act as sub woofers, not flat response across frequency ranges.
Im ok with the head unit, so looking to replace the front 3 way speakers with 2 way Alpine X-S69C 6x9's & suitable amplification for front, then some type Rs for the rear doors & a 12" type X sub for rear.
Amp is under the driver seat.
I would like to use a DSR1 from rockford fosgate, but have no idea if the Maestro can take the Toyota data stream from toyota.
Tacoma's in US seem to be using DSR1's, but maybe some issues with the 2021 models.
If anyone has any experiences, diagrams or info that would be appreciated.
I do not want to use speaker level outputs, since the DSP in the JBL is not configurable for a linear output at all volumes.
Not too keen to replace the head unit either since it actually works ok, but for the headache it might well be a kenwood 10" as replacement is a good option. Not too interested in Chinese android touch screens due to reliability. The ken wood does not seem like money well spent since a new fascia is required.
If anyone has links to a decent low cost double DIN facia (no they should not be $700(!) ) please advise.
