  • Any thoughts or experience with XTM Dual Air Compressor from BCF?

Hey folks, wasn't sure where to post this as it's not really 120-specific.

I'm working on getting my recently acquired 120 ready for some offroading, and would like to pick up a portable 12v air compressor. After reading/watching/Googling, thinking about picking up the XTM Dual Air Compressor 250LPM 150PSI from BCP. (https://www.bcf.com.au/p/xtm-dual-ai...si/606623.html)

Looks like I can get it for $150 by joining the "club". I'd imagine it's on the cheaper end (of quality, perhaps?) vs some of the other products out there, but seems to be a pretty good price for what you're getting. It's only $30 more than their base 160LPM model.

Would appreciate any feedback if anyone has one (or has tried one)? Thanks!

Hi, I have had the base model for about 3 years and it's never let me down.

Looks to be like a reskinned thumper max from 4wdsupacentre. Couple of mates have the kings model and they like it because its quick

you would definitely want a 3in1 deflator or you would be forever walking back and forwards from air comp to tyre to check tyre pressure

Thanks for the feedback, _K_. Seems like a no-brainer to go for the dual for $30 more.

Can you give me more info here? Does the 3in1 somehow go inline with the compressor? I've read that the inline gauges are very unreliable while pumping, so as you've indicated, you need to switch the compressor off to get an accurate reading. How does the 3in1 work? Thanks!

Just looking at the xtm model. The air hose doesnt have a nitto plug like the kings model. So you cant plug in the 3in1 air tool.

you wont have an accurate reading of the tyre pressure as you are inflating the tyre. Meaning you would have to turn off the air compressor then going back to the tyre and checking the guage. Hence back and forth until you get your desired pressure

You can't measure the pressure while the compressor is pumping because how inflation works is that you need a source of higher pressure (compressor) pushing air into a lower pressure (tyre). Therefore, the inline gauge will always read higher while pumping. It is the same reason why the air pump at petrol stations stop momentarily to measure the pressure. It then continues pumping if the set pressure has not been reached.

The negative of these cheaper portable air compressor is that they don't usually come with a pressure switch. You need to switch them off to measure the pressure instead of just pulling the tube off the valve and the compressor stopping automatically while you measure.

Ok, this may sound silly, but what happens if you pull the compressor fitting off the tyre valve without turning it off, take a quick measure, and pop it back on?

                  Compressor keeps running.
