  • Newbie - Injector replacement & TechStream

    First post! I am new to the world of Prado's having just purchased the car below;

    Model: 2010
    Year: GX Turbo Diesel
    Colour: White
    240,000 kms with unknown service history
    Accessories: Dual Battery, Tow Bar, Bull Bar, LED Spotlights, CB Radio

    Current issues (known at time of purchase);
    • The slip, engine and low range lights are on. My research seems to indicate that disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes may get rid of these and that they don't necessarily mean something nasty is wrong. Not all that worried.
    • The engine is noisey and stalls regularly. I fully expect this to be mainly worn injectors that need to be replaced. Is there a way to definitively determine this before shelling out alot of money? Not sure that the stalling issue is the injectors - I will look at the fuel pressures with the thought that maybe the SCV might be playing up?

    I currently have a chinesium OBD2 tool that covers a large number of brand cars. It appears to read alot of codes and live data, reset codes but not so sure about tests and entering data. I have started to see Toyota TechStream mentioned alot. Is this worth acquiring and will it enable me to enter the new injector codes and perform the follow up test/learning (cannot recall what people refer to it as) after code update? Is there a reliable purchase/download source for this?

    I tried contacting ############# to buy an injector kit but they are currently on leave. Has anybody dealt with them before? Recommended? I want to use genuine parts so if there are any other good sources that you can offer up.

    Looking forward to being able to contribute to the forum..................Sorry for asking so many questions in my first post
