I have just inherited a 2007 Prado and tidying it up.
It has a genuine bullbar.
The bumper bar section appears really tarnished but when i try and clean/polish it there is no effect.
The round bar section is polished chrome and looks different.
I am thinking this is the actual finish.
Does anyone know?

I believe the bar is chromed. The bumper bar top section is aluminium (not sure about the front face of the bullbar as that section is quite mirrored).
What are you using to polish it with? Do you have a picture?

Not chrome. Round bars are extruded aluminium. The uprights and bumper section are cast aluminium. The slightly dull appearance is what it is. Once the original topcoat of whatever the factory sprayed them with goes its a never-ending job to keep them looking good. Best start is fine scotch pads I used a drum one on a 5" grinder to remove scratches and pitting, then run over the lot with 1200 wet n dry. to polish, then I used maguires metal polish or something like Purple polish on a maguires drill polishing pad. A lot of work but after a few months the polish will fade and need it again.
If really bad , get it soda blasted and powder coated.
