  • Moonroof WARNING

This has been covered a bit (Watto1 in 2019) but thought i would share. I have a 2012 150 Altitude. 130k. Never had a problem with it, not one. Noticed a bit of water on the passenger floor after rain one time but did nothing about it maybe 2 yrs ago. Thought it was the windscreen actually and due to a few chips and minor crack thought i would just leave it till the windscreen got changed.
WRONG!. This was a major error on my part and I'm still pi**** off with myself.
So then 5 wks ago i was over at a nearby neighbor's for dinner (I'm in the country). We had a major storm come through. About 20mm in an hr or so. When I left i noticed water on the passenger floor and I got about a km up the road and it died. Stone motherless dead!. Walked home in the pouring rain about another km.

Long long story short, it was the drains blocked in the moonroof. I'm on dirt roads after moving here 3 yrs ago. I had no idea until I was googling to try and work out where the leak might be. The left hand side was blocked and is a 30 second fix! I guess dust and crap gets in there pretty easily although i never use the damn thing, and would never have another one...

So the water overflows the moonroof gutter when it fills up, into the roof lining and down the respective pillar, on mine this is passenger side. Guess what is behind the glovebox and foot panel cover, every bit of electric stuff known to man! it was all wet.
So after being stuffed around and Toyota being busy it has taken 4 wks to get diagnosed. The ECU is dead. Repair cost about $2100 if nothing else is damaged which cant be checked until the ECU is replaced first. Has to come from Sydney, more delays etc so I'm hoping to be running early next week. 7 wks!!

Moral here guys is if you have a moonroof go check your gutter drains, one on each side. DO IT. Apparently the LC has the same problem

    cheers
    Poey

Hi, I had similar, no problems in the driveway, parked on the side of the road in a downpour and came back to a lake in the passenger footwell. After reading this I found the passenger side hole in the front corner of the moon roof was blocked. Blown both sides out and hopefully that should be it for a while.
