  • Does it matter which way A/T tyres are mounted

Just wondering as I am planning a full set and they come with OWL. I prefer to have an all black outer side. So does it matter if the white writing is on the inside from a performance view.

    Yes, less bling.

What does OWL stand for? Outer White Lettering?

I don't think it makes any difference.

I have the white lettering on my BFG KO2 facing inwards. I prefer that. Doesn't look as blingy (if that's the word), and doesn't matter if you scuff them up.

Hehe, Andyfive and I both describe it as "bling".

If you think about it, if a manufacturer says their tyre is supposed to roll in a preferred direction, they would have to have any features like white lettering on both sides.

Last 2 sets of Bridgestone All Terrains I had fitted to Prado and Caravan. Both times the tyre bloke asked if I wanted white letters on inside or outside.
            It doesnt matter which way.

Well, I'm glad we all agree on that. IMO the white lettering spoils the look if it's the look you are after, but in any case, it is a personal choice which everyone can make. Given AT tyres are not directional patterns but symmetrical, then either way and for me the white goes on the inside. It is advertising to boot, and I'm not paid to advertise. So, thanks for clearing that up. Cheers everyone.

It depends. Certain tyres have more aggressive side biters on one side. It may also correspond with OWL.
