Prado 120 Petrol Engine Swap Into 100 Series Landcruiser?
A friend is considering swapping a petrol 120 series into a petrol 100 series to gain better fuel economy. Anyone have any knowledge of a similar swap and how it worked out?
Cheers
White 2012 GXL 150 TD Auto. Work in progress. Aiming to spend less than when I kitted out the 120!
Hi mate.
The idea is a little flawed.
Both engines are similar in power and torque out puts. The Prado v6 will give about 20kw more.
Both are thirsty but are pushing around large vehicles.
I’d get 18 round town and 25ish towing in the v6 Prado.
Mates 100 does 20 round town and 28ish towing. Makes sense for the heavier vehicle. Both had the same mods.
The cost and hassle involved in the swap would be far better spent on fuel.
My advice, waste of money. Spend it on a blower for the 4.5 and enjoy it
Near impossible. Thesedays, the engine is not just an engine that fits and bolts in. The engine's ECMs must be compatible with everything else that's in the vehicle and "talk the talk" on the CAN bus.
My main concerns are fuel consumption and major repair costs. Right now I drive a 2011 Kia Sorento which is an excellent vehicle in terms of comfort, features, fuel costs etc. On the other hand I really like toyota too, especially since my father used to own a 78 Prado when I was younger. Land Cruisers are very expensive in my country (trust me you don't want to know lol) so I need to make sure my investment is worth it.
