  • Lost door remote

    Recently bought a 2001 Prado 50th Anniversay.
Vehicle came with keys only, no remote.

Is there a way to acquire and pair a missing remote?
    Thanks in advance.

Sounds expensive. I wouldn't be spending that amount for a remote for a 23-year-old vehicle.

Starbuck, thanks for the link, I've only come across after-market ones, for half the price.
I did buy an after-market but no way can I get it to work, now a thought comes slowly to the surface. This is an early 2001 Prado 50th Anniversary, did they even have remotes?

Starbuck, the after=market (non-genuine) remote says its for:VZJ95R
This I assume is a model or engine number prefix, and it's nothing like mine. (5VZ12).
            Will this make a difference?

              Hi,
I had a 1998 90 series. It did not come with a remote. I later added one.

You had to buy the remote module plus the actual remote keys. The remote module had to be connected into the wiring harness under the passenger front kick panel. There was a convoluted process of opening and closing the doors multiple times to train the remote module to accept the remote keys. I recall it was frustrating experience to program the remote module to accept the remotes.

I recall the process of training the remote module used to be on this website, but it is probably buried very deep or even archived at this point.

Also, make sure the wiring harness where it exits the top of the firewall fromthe engine into the passenger compartment is properly taped up and sealed. Otherwise water will run done the harness inside and it will take out the remote module. I had that happen once. I recall the remote module was not that expensive, but it has to be 15 plus years ago and values will have changed.

              Cheers,
              Mal
