  • Fuel supply problem

    Hi to all,
    I was hoping to find out if any of you have had a particular problem with your Prado. I have a 2009 D4D prado VX and recently on a trip whilst showing 3/4 tank (950 ks into a full tank) of diesel the car stalled. Roadside assist could not work out what was wrong and after a 100km tow to a Toyota dealer I was told that I had dirty fuel in the tank and they were flushed and the car was good to go. 2 weeks later I was driving to work and the same thing happened (3/4 tank and 900 ks into a full tank). I got roadside assist to add some diesel and the car started straight away. I went straight to a Toyota dealer and was told the jet pump valve was blocked. This was the first tank fill since the original instance. I was told that the fuel in the car was all clear and that maybe in the first instance the jet pump valve was not cleaned properly and once again the tanks were removed. The first time this happened I paid $650.00 to rectify the issue (dirty fuel is not covered by warranty) and I am looking at that again to fix it now. Does anyone have any suggestions as I am at a loss as to what I should do next.

    They may need to recallabrate the fuel gauge, it sounds like you are running out of fuel even though it reads 3/4 full, 950k's is alot of k's and to have only used 1/4 of a tank does not sound right.

      My hypothesis... Yes the jet pump is not working well... since there is 1/2 a tank in the second take the fuel gauge says 1/4 empty, it is assuming that the sub tank will empty first since it is constantly being pumped into the main tank; or should be. At about a 1/2 full second tank the blocked jet pump can no longer move fuel (or fuel can no longer naturally move under gravity) to the main tank and it empties, causing the engine to stall...

      I have noticed on my car, if I park it on a steep hill, with a fullish main tank, but the 90 light on and gauge showing fullish I hear a gluging... presumable fuel is moving to the second tank under gravity via the filler hoses. In the morning the gauge shows a lot more fuel... ie. no green light and gauge above 1/2. About 20 mins down the road the gauge has gone down quickly, the green light comes back on and the gauge goes back to where it was the night before.

      Make them pay to fix it, since they didn't do it properly the first time...
