  • Resale pricing and 120series availability ?

    Hi guys,

I have been looking for a 120 series GXL or VX in D4D Auto for a few months and have just about given up. I have a current offer for a 2010 GXL D4D Auto in White from Bunbury Toyota for $61k on road. I use this quote to compare prices with secondhand 120's and some are so close it's not funny. There is a 2007 120 series on usedcars for $56k, then you add stampduty and your almost at the same price. :? That's the worst example, but generally the 2007 120's have 80,000km plus and are still around the $48k mark !!
That's for a east coast car, you just cannot get them over in WA unless they have huge kays on them.

Is it a timing thing ? Do you think more cars will come on the market in the next year as people trade out of their leases and prices will moderate ?

It's looking like I am going to get the 150series !

I think you are inadvertently part of the problem.
Many 120 owners still seem to be reluctant to update to the 150, and there's a lot of people preferring a second hand 120 D-4Ds over a new 150, therefore it is a pure demand, supply thing. Give it another 6 months I reckon.
I hear the same thing is happening with the 200 series Landcruiser - a mate wanted to get a 5 year old 100 Series Turbo Diesel but could only find ones around $60K. Apparently it is because people are still hesitant to update to the 200 Series, and hanging on to their 100 Series.
    Cheers, Wayne

I would much prefer the 150 series, and will just strech the budget to make it fit, but are people really paying top dollar for the old style ? That just seems crazy to me, and I would think the resale in a few years will be effected as I thought people tend to look for the latest model they can afford.

Anyhoo, it can only be good news when I trade it in a few years

Resale pricing and 120series availability ?

I was originally going to buy a 120 V6 GXL secondhand but when I discovered I could get a brand new 150 V6 GXL for the same price I jumped at it! There are still late model 120's on carsales asking more than the $58k I paid for mine.

Its one of the reasons thatI thought it was worthy to buy a prado, you pay extra at the front but you get it all back when you sell. New does make sense sometimes

Out of curisoty was the 2nd hand 120 standard or had it been modded with bar, lights, lift, tyres, etc... If it did then that would have made a substantial difference to aplles for apples price.

Re: Resale pricing and 120series availability ?

I just did a quick check myself on Car Sales as I was curious about T/Diesel advertised prices on a 120 GXL.
Was quite suprised at how well the resale was with the Dealers, they're still asking between $53k to $58k for a 2008 model.
Private Sale prices were just around the $50k mark here in Qld.

              cheers

Spot on Stewy, then add stamp duty to get it on the road and why would you ?

Get a car with 70.000kms and two years old and old model without DAC and other wonders or for ~4k more get full warrenty and a brand newie !

When I get down to Bunbury Toyota I am placing my order !!! WOOOT

Re: Resale pricing and 120series availability ?

                  Hi All

When I bought my 150 the dealer had some 120's in the yard at late $50k's, he told me that due to the anticipated delays and the fear of buying a new model the price of the 120's had been inflated. The problem the dealers now have is that they paid top dollar for the 120's and now have to try and recoup their outlay. If you want a 120 and can wait 6 months then you will see the price drop quite dramatically.

                  Regards, Richo

After being up in the North West I noticed that 99% of the mine cars i saw on the road were white D4D 120 Series GXl 's . Can imagine when 100's of these come out of service and flood the market it will drop the price of the good ones .
