hi everyone, had safari snorkel fitted yesterday to my 95 series T/D was wondering where the pipe is joined to the air filter housing wether it should be sealed with some form of silastic ?? Going to pull off inner plastic guard tomorow to check all the joints that they are also done. I thought possibly no need to seal it incase air cannister needs to be removed for some reason. Am going to ring the instalers to see what they say.Regards Steve

Re: sealing of snorkel
Hi Steve
Recently fitted a Safari with the help of "Switched"
I had purchased some MAF safe sealant from REPCO and used a smear around the joints where the rubber tube joiner meets the plastic snorkel body.
In hindsight I would not bother with this again as it seemed to squeeze out when the two pieces were married toghether and also made the joining part very slippery while doing up the clamps.
I did however seal up the drain holes in the filter body housing.

Re: sealing of snorkel
Steve,
I recently fitted a Safari Snork to my 95 TD. Really impressed with the snorkel however I think Safari did a half hearted job with the ducting under the guard and up to the airbox.
When you pull the guard liner off you will see the Safari flexi ducting hooks up to the original (but now modified) Toyota air intake. From there the duct goes forward to another join. Then does a U turn and heads back to the air filter box (another join).
IMO these joins are all susceptible to water entry, even with silastic as the simply push against each other with a cone to cone type setup.
I went all out and ripped all of the plastic ducting out. Went and seen my local exhaust shop and got some 2.5" tube flared out to fit the airbox and the other end to fit the safari flexi pipe. Cut the tube in the middle and welded back at 90 degrees. Then used holesaw to cut hole directly adjacent airbox inlet. Fitted all up looks great (you can barely see it actually).
You will find some posts in the 90series forums of blokes doing similar with poly tube aswell.
I have witnessed a hydrauliced diesel in a remote area so I wont take any chances.
