  • Colour Matched Bullbars - White vs Black... which is better?

Guys.... my 1st post here so I hope I'm the right section for this question......

Looking at orderng a new Prado & my thoughts were to get a "Colour Coded - White" ARB Bullbar to match the car as I've seen a white Prado with a White B/bar and they look great 8) ..... but I've recently seen one with a ARB "Black" Bullbar with Black Side Bars + a Snorkel which also looked great 8) .... So here's my delimma.... Which Colour (BLACK or WHITE) would handle better over the long term in regards to stone-chips and the famous outback red dust / mud??
My previous B/bar was Black and it seemed to "hide" any stone-chips &/or the outback red mud..... So I was wondering what other people's experiences are with "WHITE" Bullbars and seeing the stone-chips and if they get any staining from the Outback Red dust/mud??
The last thing I want to have is a white bar that looked terrible due to all the stone-chips from travelling on the outback roads....

I've spoken to a few at work and they reckon stick with black as the white will show stone chips more, then add to that the rust that starts to form where the bare metal is exposed.....

any help would be much appreciated

    cheers....

If I did it again I wouldn't get colour matched. Nothing against the finish but the stock colour looks ok and with the money you save you can buy some driving lights.

Both the BLACK bars and the WHITE bars certainly look the part but I'm more concerned the effects over time of stone chips, rust marks/stains, BUGS, etc and which one will look worse or which one will hide it better..... I'm thinking BLACK will hide it better....

          Rob,

Over the years, I have found black to be better for hiding marks, bugs and crap when choosing a bullbar..

          my 3 cents,

Re: Colour Matched Bullbars - White vs Black... which is better?

AFAIK the colour coding is just spray painted over the grey/black powdercoat of the stock bull bar ( this is for ARB, not sure about the other brands. )
So a colour coded bar would theoretically have less resistance to stone chipping.
I think there a few posts that verify this also.
But the white on white does look good, so it's a trade off really.
            Cheers, Wayne

Re: Colour Matched Bullbars - White vs Black... which is better?

Just got my white Prado fitted with a matching ARB bar and yes they cut back the powdercoat slightly to take the paint.
I'm well wrapt in the look and am glad I didn't go for the black, just a personal preference.
Cost me an extra $300 if I remember but that was probably for the crystal pearl metallic paint.
Can't vouch for the problems with the chipping or red dust as I haven't taken it that far yet but it doesn't bother me.
If you see it as a problem then spend the extra money on some other goodies.

              Cheers

Re: Colour Matched Bullbars - White vs Black... which is better?

Had a white ARB deluxe winch bar for over 5 years now.

                No problems.

Bugs come off, no marks left behind, stone chips have not been an issue, I did scatch mine early on by nudging the camper trailer by mistake and that has surface rusted, but not bad.

With the white bar, and black accessories, they look great.
I would do it again for sure.

                    Thanks Fellas....

I think I'll end up going with the Black Bullbar which will match with the Dark Tint & Snorkel..... I also priced the ARB Sidebars which only finish behind the Front wheels.... Apparently this is due to the Side Air Bags, etc. The price I was quoted was over $1000    $1000 for bars that finish just behind the Front wheels, u got to be kiddin.....

I also found out that ARB have got plans of making/designing a "FULL Side Bar & Step"... wondering what they will be worth

I think the white looks absolutely awesome.
But personally I would probably go black.
The snorkel will be black, the sidesteps, the roofrack, windows,
and maybe one day the rims too.
So its a bit of a white with black accessories look that I am going for I guess.
